POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

(Sharing from LinkedIn soo TLDR I’m in Boston, come say hi in the storm!? ☃️🥶 )
so excited to be coming back to MIT as a organizer and speaker this year! I’ll be sharing my experience working across XR, Storytelling, and the Performing Arts in my talk, “Designing for Belonging: Finding the story through Storytelling + XR”. I’ll also be sharing this work with the students at The Clubhouse Network and am SO excited to hear their ideas and build together with Gustavo Madrigal, M.A. Ed. ᯅ and Sultan Sharrief!!

It’s kind of impossible to put one label or box on it, so, I’m starting this year by embracing all of the messiness and beauty of discovery that the arts and creating with communities has offered. Will be sharing the process behind “Failtopia”, my project that won in 2023, as well as the lessons I’ve learned being Artist + Innovator in Residence at Purdue University and Texas A&M University. So many things to share just from working with the incredible teams there with Dorothy Chan, Todd Wetzel, Michael Armintrout, Esteban Garcia Bravo, Ann McNamara, James R. Ball III, Kylee Friederichs and Edgar Rojas Muñoz and the incredible faculty + students!

If you’re in town, would love to say hello!!

My heart is so full - Saturday’s show Tales for a Starry Night with @operaatlantic was a huge success!! Opera Atlantic has been a dream long in the making, and I couldn’t have asked for a better cast and team to share it with! So many thanks to the brilliant @lizkiger for developing the concept and directing, @whylucywhy for being our one-person orchestra at the piano, to @slecmontclair for hosting us in their gorgeous space, and to the fabulous singers I had the honor of working with! I have worn many hats in this industry—often at the same time—and this has by far been one of the most rewarding. We have exciting things in the works for next season, so stay tuned! ⭐️🎉
Huge shoutout to @alexzerenfoto for the amazing pictures of the show!

SRTN 280 features the work of @samn.johnson

Samn Johnson (he/they, b. 1991) is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and historical linguist. Their work often harnesses research on acoustics and historical phonology to set texts in ancient languages like Latin, Old English, Hittite, and Gothic. Samn has written for a range of performers including Chromic Duo, Righteous GIRLS, JACK Quartet, and harpsichordist Nathan Mondry. His latest work is the song cycle Consolation, setting Latin poetry from Boethius’s Consolation of Philosophy for vocalist Tis Kaoru Zamler-Carhart. It is out on innova Recordings, June 28, 2024. The two preceding recordings, both self-released, are Ageless Sea (2022), for chamber choir, chamber orchestra, electronics, and rock band, and First Book for Piano (2022), performing his own piano works.

Samn is also half of the synth pop duo Acraea, together with Leora Mandel. Samn holds degrees in composition from the University of Michigan and NYU, studied composition at the Interlochen Arts Academy, and has taken courses in Indo-European historical linguistics at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. A little #FlashbackFriday for you of some behind the scenes moments from last weekends’s Season Finale, The 24 Violins Cross the Alps! Thank you again to everyone who made this incredible performance possible, from the audience, to the players, Brick Presbyterian Church, and more — and a special shoutout to our box office babes, Karl Hinze and Liz Kiger, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help our concerts go as seamlessly as possible!

Greeting Trebulationists,

We did it again! Congratulations on another year of innovation and camaraderie! We’ve been able to watch this weird little thing grow into a weird moderately sized thing over the last few years and I am genuinely astounded by the amount of creativity and ingenuity that showed up this time around! You all really outdid yourselves. It warms my heart to no end to see you all come together and form these bonds mortared by medieval siege technology ⚔️

Enormous thanks to:
- Wanda at the parks department for making this happen despite some intense permitting confusion. You’re a real one, Wanda.
- Gotham Swords for providing lessons and prizes for this year competitors. You’ve lended a true air of legitimacy to this silly contest. @gothamswords
- The incomparable Sarahrose Petrick for tirelessly sculpting, molding, and casting our precious baby boy trophies. He is adored by all @reallyrippedghost
- Brooklyn Magazine and specifically Scott Lynch for their continued coverage and lovely photos of our event @scoboco @brooklynmagazine
- Jesse Mooney for not only competing but providing our opening bagpipe fanfare @jesseplaysthepipes
- Our team of judges who have lent their discerning taste and expertise to the competition since day one @formyabdominals @evantscott
- Liz Kiger and the Brooklyn Telemann Chamber Society for their moral and financial support @lizkiger
- And of course, all of you who braved the challenge and brought out your trebs! It’s all about you guys!

Until next year, Trebulationists…
