POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
An AmericanaFest encounter eventually led Tré Burt and Sunny War to the same Nashville house, where solo porch sessions turned into playing together. Now they're @smoothharrisonband.

Tré stopped by WNXP to share the story ahead of their free show this Friday, Oct. 23, at Brown's Diner. The video also features their performance of “Scornful Heart,” filmed by Western AF.

Presented by WNXP and Oh Boy Records, the show starts at 7 pm. And there's something especially fitting about bringing this music to one of John Prine's favorite Nashville spots.

Charlie Parr is a songwriter’s songwriter, or maybe a playwright in songwriter’s clothing. Our conversation about his new album, ‘Rooming House,’ is out now on Basic Folk. ‘Rooming House,’ out October 16 on Smithsonian Folkways, is the type of brilliantly observed story-album that we are lucky enough to get when imaginative artists from working class backgrounds have the courage to tell stories about real life, and ask big questions in song like: What happens when regular people feel completely out of options? What is the sound of surviving? And while we’re asking questions, what’s so funny about universal healthcare?

I’ve revered Minnesota folk artist Charlie Parr as a songwriter since I heard “Cheap Wine” in the midst of my own fervent journey into the troubadour’s life in the mid 2010s. That song had so much to sink your teeth into - the Hemingwayan economy of language, the hypnotic and distinct guitar track, the way I could feel my own feet getting sore standing behind the counter on a winter day, wanting more for myself than life had to to offer. “Cheap Wine” became my favorite song of the decade and led me into Parr’s large body of work, which is full of rich, patient storytelling both in the lyricism and in Parr’s playing. And it’s worth saying, there is generosity in Charlie’s work AND in his willingness to demystify it.

Long live artists who take their time with the small things. Long live unions. Long live folk music and the blues. Long live Charlie Parr.

Cheers from Dublin,
Lizzie

Did you know that at major U.S. music festivals in 2026, just 22% of musicians booked were women?

I’m a gigging musician, and know there are tons of us out here that are talented and ready to take the stage. So when I found the work of @bookmorewomen - collecting gender data across the industry and advocating for more equity in booking, I was excited about the prospect of a more equitable festival scene.

What started in 2018 with one frustrated music fan and one frustrating festival lineup has become years of data, advocacy, and community. Now, Book More Women is 501(c)(3) nonprofit official, and I’m proud to be a member of the founding board of directors!

We’ve kicked off a month-long fundraising campaign with a goal of $25,000 to fund the research, programs, people, and structure we need to grow our impact and make our vision a reality.

Every like, share, comment, and conversation has helped build Book More Women into what it is. Our crowdfunding campaign early this year gave us the resources - and the encouragement - to invest in building Book More Women into something bigger.

Now, we need your support to help sustain and grow what we’ve built over thousands of hours of grassroots, volunteer-led work.

If Book More Women’s work has ever informed you, challenged you, or made you believe this industry can be better, please consider making a contribution today to help us build a more equitable music industry.

Contributions can be made on our Instagram profile or at our official website.

And if any of my fellow music industry peeps want to help spread the word, I’d love to help you craft a post of your own.

Thank you to everyone whose support has gotten Book More Women this far 🎶

Green is out today.

It's music for being alive to. It's an antidote. It's music for people who endeavor to find joy in living. It wasn't made for the algorithm age: I earnestly hope you'll listen to the whole thing from start to finish. In your car, or your kitchen, or on your bed with headphones.

This album is everything that I am: untethered in time, curious, welcoming, generous of heart. I've worked on this album every day for 2.5 years. It contains the best of me.

It is the music of my real life, brought to life by EIGHTY-TWO collaborators who played, danced, sang, engineered, styled, filmed, lit, and so much more. It is proof that I'm never alone. That I never have been.

Please enjoy Green, and thank you to everyone who helped it arrive. 💚

Features by heart twins @iamjessnolan & @lizzie.no
