THEY SAID BODYBUILDING IS A SOLO SPORT.

But for me, it never was—especially when you’re surrounded by the right support system.

Bodybuilding has two sides: the one everyone sees on stage, and the one no one sees behind the scenes. The hardest battle isn’t physical—it’s mental.

A little backstory.

In 2022, I made a promise to myself that I would compete in my rookie season the following year.

At the time, I was in my third year of nursing school, the most demanding year of the program—filled with thesis work, clinical rotations, community health visits, and countless case presentations.

My debut was supposed to be at the ANB in May 2023, but when the competition was moved to November, everything changed. The new schedule no longer aligned with my priorities, and I had a decision to make.

I chose to put the stage on hold and finish what I had started.

By God’s grace, I graduated, earned my RN license, and eventually began med school.

A year later, in November 2025, I reconnected with my friend, LJ. We started a body recomposition together—not to chase the stage, but simply to stay accountable and see what we could build while balancing the demands of med school.

Ironically, LJ was originally the one preparing to compete this year. Meanwhile, I was focused on building my aerobic base, running mileage, joining races, growing Actief, and organizing community runs to support small businesses.

Bodybuilding wasn’t the plan anymore.

But sometimes, the plans we let go of find their way back to us when we’re finally ready.

Last weekend, I finally stepped onto the stage at the INBA Philippines.

Not in 2023, as I had originally imagined — but in God’s perfect timing.

This wasn’t just my first bodybuilding competition.

It was redemption.

Redemption for the prep that never reached the stage.
Redemption for the goals I thought I had left behind.
And proof that some dreams simply take a different route before they come true.

If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s this:
