The Ghosts of Gunflint Bay
By LJ Thomas

Ghosts, a lighthouse, and a small town with BIG secrets? Say less. 👻🌊🔦

Thank you so much @ljthomasbooks for the #gifted e-copy! If your #SpookySeason TBR needs a little YA historical fiction with ghostly encounters and a murder mystery, pull up a blanket because this one has you covered!

Set in the late 1800s, after losing their parents, two sisters head to Gunflint Bay to find their only living relative: a long-lost uncle who happens to be a lighthouse keeper. Unfortunately, their arrival comes with some seriously bad timing. Their uncle has discovered a missing girl’s body in the lake, and the town is pointing fingers in his direction. 😬

Add in a similar disappearance from 40 years earlier, a sister who can see AND talk to ghosts, and the dead girl’s brother joining the search for answers, and you’ve got yourself quite the spooky little mystery!

I had so much fun with this one! It keeps the spooky on the lighter side, with no jump scares and even a little romantic twist. Perfect for readers who want ghosts and secrets without sleeping with every light in the house on. 🖤📖

QOTD: You’ve inherited a lighthouse, but it comes with a resident ghost. Are you moving in or handing over the keys? 👻🔑

AOTD: I’m moving in! But that ghost better be ready to help with chores and respect my reading time. 😂

🐦‍⬛ Gothic Reads October 🐦‍⬛

HAPPY OCTOBER!

In addition to some ARCs, I want to celebrate my love of Gothic literature with a month focused on Gothic Romance reads that are on my TBR. I’m hoping to get through these, but we’ll see how October treats me:

💀Death’s Obsession by Avina St. Graves - “He’s coming for you. Death is meant to come on a chariot of broken dreams or in the dark trenches of a storm, not in love letters and gifts.” Dark Gothic Romance

🗝️Bloody Key by L.J. Thomas* - A Gothic Bluebeard Retelling

👀A Most Decadent Curse by Deborah Yelle* - “Two sisters must battle an ancient family curse determined to claim them in this Gothic fantasy perfect for fans of ‘A Study in Drowning’ and ‘House of Salt and Sorrows’ (YA)”

🏴‍☠️A Cursed Age by A.M. Dunnewin* - “A Gothic ‘Treasure Planet’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ meets ‘The Witcher’ in this Nautical Gothic tale set in 1806 about a cursed pirate, a wrathful sea witch, and the rise of the airship.”

📚Forsyth Conservatory by A.L. Sterling* - “‘Ninth House’ meets ‘Mexican Gothic’ in a dark academia mystery where the cards are stacked against reason—and the price of knowledge is blood.”

🏰Sourwood by Logan Spurgeon* - “Two siblings, with their own hidden motivations agree to visit their ancestral home, Ashfeld Manor, to obtain their inheritance but nothing is as it seems.—Excerpted from Blurb

🇲🇽Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - “‘Lovecraft meets the Brontës in Latin America.” Mystery/Thriller
