🏆 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐎𝐕𝐑 𝟏𝟔𝐀 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 ❗️

🔥𝟏𝟔𝐀-𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨 understood the assignment today at OVR Mizuno Junior 16A Championships today. They went 3-0 in their pool to qualify for the 🌟𝐆𝐎𝐋𝐃 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭. They battled their way through the bracket winning a HUGE semifinal match to punch their ticket to the ‘ship! They dominated in the CHAMPIONSHIP in straight sets. 🤯🏐

This team has played in the 🌟𝐆𝐎𝐋𝐃 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 in their division the last 4️⃣ years + winning the championship TWICE. We are SO PROUD of their hard work and grit! They are so FUN to watch and we are so glad we get to continue to watch them for 2 more months. 🏐

Lauren Pleska is a freshman at Hoover High School in West Virginia. The 5-foot-7 outside hitter and defensive specialist also plays for Putnam Volleyball Club. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“I started by going to the YMCA and watching my dad play in a rec league, then I signed up for clinics at the YMCA,” she said. “Then one day during a clinic, there was a tryout for a club team that was going to happen after the clinic. My dad asked if I could sign up because I was a lot younger then the age group and originally got told that I couldn’t try out, but they changed their mind. I tried out and made it. I was 6 years old when I gained interest in volleyball. I was 10 when I played on my first club team (13 year old team).”
She started in the back row and is comfortable at her position now.
“I started out playing libero, then moved to middle then moved to outside/defensive specialist, which is what I am now.”
She wants to play college volleyball. Playing at Pitt would be a dream come true.
“I have always wanted to play at a high level,” she said. “My dream team to play for is Pitt because my dad and I always go and watch them play and they have such a good team bond and team goals.”
She enjoys the competition.
“I love the competition part of volleyball and the battling trying to get to 25 first,” she said.
She works on all of her skills to gain an edge in training.
“I go to the gym and work out with a trainer and go and find an empty court to practice with my dad on hitting, serve-receive, serving and passing,” she said.
She offered words of wisdom.
“For the younger kids, just do what you want to do,” she said. “If that is play at a high level, that means you are gonna have to put in a lot of work. If you want it to be fun, have fun.”
