POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
an ending note,
from me to you:

When you say something, it becomes real. Or at least that’s what my play is about. Words validate everything around us. And for the past two years, I’ve been repeatedly saying “I’m going to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival” to anyone who was willing to listen.

And alas - here I am. On the other side of it. Was it everything I thought it would be? No. Was it better? No. Worse? No. It was… real. It was real.

And what the show purposefully doesn’t explore is how words can also limit everything around us. The moment we put something into words, we box it into a straightforward meaning. And so, instead of really summing up this experience and trying to find the right words, like I have been trying to do on stage for the past month… I’ll keep it with me. I won’t limit it to words. Maya the character isn’t ready for this lesson, but I think I am.

Instead, I’ll use this Instagram opportunity to say thank you (which is also a limited word - there should be a much deeper equivalent for my gratitude) to every single person who made this experience what it was.

To my fierce and talented team, to my incredible, incomparable friends who came to visit and support the show from all over the world, to my family (especially my mum), to all the new friends I made during this festival - and all the people who came to see the show. You’re now my friends too.

Until next time?
- Maya xx

I still don’t know if I have the words to describe how much this production meant to me. Diving straight into “Edgar & Annabel” after “City Rats” was a blessing to say the least. Finding the fortitude to keep creating and pushing through when it feels like the industry says, “there’s no place for you here” is so difficult; if it weren’t for the amazing people in my life who not only give support, but also give me a chance I don’t know where I’d be this year as an actor.

So thank you Ryan @ryanbhartley525 for not only joining me on the crazy journey of CR, but for also bringing me into E&A. As you know, this carried so much weight for me and I am honored to collaborate with you and call you a dear friend. Your determination to showcase the work that you’ve put in as well as everyone else in the ensemble is an example of what true artistry looks like and that cannot be taken lightly.

Me and my friends did something really special this past week. We came together through all the business of our day jobs and personal lives and put together a play that I’m so proud of. It’s not easy to put a play on its feet when your resources are limited and your budget is close to nothing. But with our incredible captain of the ship, @ryanbhartley525 and the creative team, we made beautiful art and I’m so honored and blessed to have been a part of this project. Although our run was short, It felt so good to be on stage again and let loose for some time.

Big ups to my incredible cast mates who made this so much fun and memorable. And thank you to everyone who came to see the show! Hope to see you at the next one!
