The Delhi Watch Co. VAYU BISON

Released alongside the Vayu IV, the Bison represents a rather interesting direction for the Vayu lineup.

While the Vayu IV follows the original design cues and retains the familiar field watch aesthetic, albeit with a new and more affordable quartz identity, the Bison, on the other hand, happens to be — a chronograph.

Inspired by the MiG-21 Bison, the legendary fighter aircraft that guarded Indian skies for decades, the aviation influence runs throughout the watch. From the engraved caseback to the dial layout itself, which takes inspiration from the clock found inside the cockpit of the MiG-21, it feels more technical, instrument-like and considerably busier than any Vayu before it.

The dial looks beautiful with its classic yet unique chronograph layout, featuring two sub-dials, a telemeter scale and a tachymeter scale. Yet it never feels random. Everything just fits. The dial is, in fact, what convinced me to buy the watch in the first place.

That said, it does feel like a bit of a tight squeeze inside the 38mm case. Personally, I think a slightly larger case would have benefited the design and given the dial a little more breathing room.

However, after spending a little over a month with the watch, these merely qualify as first impressions. I’ll do a proper review once I’ve spent enough time with it on the wrist.

For now, I can confidently say one thing:

This doesn’t feel like a chronograph version of the Vayu.

It feels like a completely different watch that just happens to carry the Vayu name.
