So nice to surf some decent size waves with a solid push! The current was pretty next level today and almost gave up on the paddle out as I was stuck on a treadmill for a good 10+ mins going nowhere… Looks like more swell on the way 💯
Mahalo for the 📷 @lodofilms 🤙🏾

After years of had work, dedication and late late nights I am so proud to be receiving recognition and awards for my film on @joshybogle titled “Finding True North” and just today received “Best Inspirational Film” by the @lafilmawards 🙏🏽
I want to thank Josh for trusting in me over the last few years to document and share his absolutely amazing life story.
I also want to take a moment to thank all of you! Fundraising for this project was so much harder than I ever imagined, and the biggest success was a Crowdfunding campaign on @indiegogo 2 years ago where so many family and friends donated small amounts that really added up in order to let me really dedicate that time necessary to get this project going.
Mahalo to everyone that has supported this along the way especially @hi5sfoundation @lovetheseaplasticfree @lairdapparel ! Very excited for our first public premiere here on Maui which should be in the next month or 2.
Mahalo @joshybogle
@lodofilms helping in Jackson after I broke my shoulder trying to keep up with Josh & @colegirton for stepping in to help me finish the editing off while we were simultaneously working hard on @lahainarising 💯🙏🏽
Can’t wait for more festivals, and also @lahainarising to have its first film festival in the next few weeks! Years of work finally coming to fruition this year 🔨🤯

Lahaina Rising From The Ashes: Extended Trailer

We are proud to share the extended trailer for “Rising from the Ashes.” As a team born and raised in Lahaina, it is our privilege, honor, and burden to tell this story. This film captures the August 8th wildfire tragedy, the injustices that led up to it, the incredible community response all while highlighting the resilience and unity of our community as we fight for water justice and embrace the spirit of aloha ʻĀina.

Our hope is that this film will be both enlightening and healing, even as we navigate triggering and traumatic footage. Our mission is to do justice to our community’s incredible story.

Please note that our Instagram and marketing efforts will not include any footage or stories from the fire, as we understand how difficult it can be to watch and do not want to trigger or traumatize anyone. However, our trailer and extended trailer do include a bit of this footage to provide a clear understanding of what our film is about and the gravity of the story we are telling. We believe it is essential to show some of this content to truly convey the impact and importance of our community’s journey in the trailer.

We humbly ask for your support. Please like, share, and follow our journey. If you have resources, footage, or industry experience that can assist us, reach out to rfalahaina@gmail.com. Together, we can ensure these vital stories are told.

📽️ Check out this cool archival footage we found while doing research for our film! Here are dock workers loading bags of sugar onto a boat in Kahului, Maui. 🌺 Guarantee one of these guys is one of your great grandparents! Haha

We have lots more like this to share and hope you find it as fascinating as we do to take a look into the past.

Just a heads up, this may not be in the final film. Also, we added the sound in post-production, so it’s not historically accurate—We rushed it for social media fun! 😅

Remember to share and spread awareness for “Rising From The Ashes.” Your support is crucial as we bring this powerful story to life.
