You do you and what’s best for your team. Ultimately, that’s a decision for the coach and the team. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I encourage you to keep an open mind about how we train, develop, and empower athletes.

Our success as coaches shouldn’t be measured solely by the wins and losses of our athletes. It should by the athletes we develop, the confidence, and the skills they learn.

When we refuse to loosen our grip on control because we don’t believe our athletes can figure things out on their own, we take away opportunities for them to develop critical thinking, problem solving skills, independence, and ownership of their game.

They’re the ones playing. Not us.

Let them make decisions. Let them work through challenges. Let them make mistakes, adjust, learn, and experience the pure joy of competing.

Because one day, these athletes will be adults navigating careers, relationships, and challenges that have absolutely nothing to do with softball. And when they can think critically, problem-solve, adapt, and find their own path to success, we’ll know we’ve helped them develop skills that truly matter.

So, by all means, do what you think is best for your team. But please, don’t underestimate what your athletes are capable of when you give them the opportunity to figure it out themselves. 🩵

Please note: college is different than minor sports. This message is geared to minor athletes/coaches/parents
