What a ride. I wish I had a more eloquent (and cooler) way to say it, but I’m just really proud to have led this project.

2 months ago, I pitched the idea of Portland Gear expanding outside of Portland for the first time, and Bend immediately felt like the right fit to all of us. We found the space at the end of February, signed the lease in April, and opened our doors this last weekend. We moved with so much intention while also moving incredibly fast, but seeing it all come together exceeded every expectation I had.

On Monday, we walked into four walls and a vision. Over the next five days, our small but mighty team built an entire store, processed nearly 5,000 units, hired and trained a team, hosted a VIP preview, and opened to a line down the block on Saturday.

I’ve always taken pride in working hard, but what I’m most proud of is the people behind this project. The entire team showed up for each other every step of the way, and none of this happens without them.

Having my family there for opening weekend made it even more meaningful. Getting to share something I poured so much into with the people I love most is something I’ll never forget.

And the Bend community showed us so much support from day one. The warmth, excitement, and encouragement we felt all weekend reminded me exactly why this felt like the right place for us.

And to the best super dad in the world, thank you for holding everything down, supporting me through every stressful and exciting moment, and never leaving my side ❤️

We finally made it home after almost two weeks away, and I think it’s all just starting to sink in. Feeling really grateful for this team, this community, and the opportunity to bring something we believed in to life.
