LAND is now accepting proposals for @nyscouncilonthearts 2027 Support for Artists grant!

We’ve been lucky enough to be awarded this grant for four consecutive years, each year working with professional artists in the community that value community and collaboration.

If you’re a NYC based artist that would love the opportunity to bring your creative expertise to the LAND studio for a year long project, we’d love to hear from you.

Just send us a direct message with a short description of your work as artist and what you envision for a collaborative project by Friday, June 12

A big part of 2024 was having the incredible opportunity to work with Allison Hadar, @loomereclipse , through @nyscouncilonthearts “Support for Artists” grant. Allison started volunteering with LAND in 2022, and has become an important member of the LAND community.

Her project, “A Woven Community”, offered artists the ability to come together and celebrate our community in a meaningful, creative and collaborative way. The culminating event showcasing our communal weaving alongside our friends at @leaguecenter was a joyous occasion.

A lot of joy and togetherness came out of this project. We have so much gratitude for @nyscouncilonthearts, @leaguecenter and of course, @loomereclipse for making this experience possible. Thank you!! 🙏🏼

Five days in Oaxaca: long enough to disconnect, but still not long enough. Our first trip to Mexico since 2019, and first time in Puerto Escondido since 2017. Rejuvenating. Refreshing. We did nothing, but somehow did a lot. There was whale watching (this land lubber got mildly seasick — the wee-est bit queasy), yet Laura was the only one on our boat to resist the deep’s vertigo. Palapas overhead, we consumed many cold coconuts and beach quesadillas. I got bored, in the best way. We saw old friends and watched sunsets on empty beaches. I practiced my Spanish, and learned a few más palabras locales from @adrian_bara. (Cerveza caminera is quite useful at the beach). Our trip was capped — no, crowned — with airport tlayudas.

So needed after my first big install at AST! One of the perks of Houston is the proximity to Mexico, and I have a feeling we will become frequent visitors again.

This incredible piece was woven using all naturally dyed yarn, wood and leather, by the oh-so talented @loomereclipse! She customized it to our mountain home so perfectly, and we are madly in love with the calming presence it brings to our space. Check out her work and reach out for commissioned pieces.
