In this next conversation with Aidan de Cadenet and Lucas Dong I dive into something a bit different. While this podcast is never meant to be about the technical side, and usually focuses on emotion, ideas, and the creative process, I couldn’t help but ask how a specific shot was achieved. Sometimes, understanding the craft behind the magic adds another layer to the story. Link in bio for full conversation. One question I kept coming back to… Why let something so meaningful sit for 23 years? In my conversation with Aidan de Cadenet, I wondered if the moment the wheel came off changed everything, if the car carried a different weight after that. And if Aidan stepping in to bring it back wasn’t just about restoration… but something deeper between a father and son. One of my favorite parts about these conversations is going beyond what’s presented and getting closer to the story underneath. Grateful that people I respect trust me with that space.

Images from a special in-person episode of Shoot Wisely, (link in bio)I sit down with filmmaker Aidan de Cadenet and director Lukas Dong to talk about the making of their short documentary The Alfa. The conversation was recorded at Aidan’s home in Los Angeles, where the very car that inspired the film — a rare Alfa Romeo TZ — sat quietly in the garage just a few feet away. The setting created a relaxed and intimate atmosphere for a conversation between two filmmakers and longtime friends reflecting on the creative journey behind the project. Together we discuss the origins of The Alfa, how the collaboration between Aidan and Lukas came together, and the emotional story behind restoring one of the most meaningful cars owned by Aidan’s father, legendary racing driver Alain de Cadenet. Episode 21 of Shoot Wisely. (Link in bio) I sat down in person with Aidan de Cadenet and Lukas Dong to talk about their film The Alfa. We recorded this conversation at Aidan’s house with the actual Alfa Romeo TZ that inspired the film sitting in the garage just a few steps away. What started as a conversation about filmmaking quickly became something deeper. We talk about the origins of the project, their friendship and creative collaboration, the legacy of Aidan’s father Alain de Cadenet, and the bigger question behind the film: Is closure something we can actually achieve… or even something we should be pursuing? A thoughtful conversation between two filmmakers and friends about storytelling, memory, and the objects that carry meaning through time.
