Steven took me on a date to the WNDR Museum downtown today. We started with pastries from Mindy's Bakery, had tasty Thai food for dinner and finished our evening lattes from Froth and 2 thrift stores.

Some of you know that Steve and I entered this contest. Voting starts on July 6 at 10am to see who makes it to the next round. Please vote and share!!❤️

Steven and I met way back in 1996 when his best friend, Casey was made my driver's ed partner because we have the same name. He came to pick him up one day and saw me walking home and asked him who I was. They offered me a ride and we briefly dated. It was Steven's senior year of high school. We lost touch until 5 years later when he moved back from Arizona. We were both heading to different house parties when we both had the same idea to get a snack at Pano's, not a regular hangout for me but it was near the party. He remembered me and came to say "hi." My group ended up hanging out with him all night. He came home with me that night and pretty much never left. We got married 7 months later in Vegas. We were in our very early twenties and I had a 3 year old. No one thought we would last. We just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. We've only gotten stronger as a couple as we've grown and matured, raised four kids together, and continue to sing songs together.

We only had a couple hours before our flight so we had a lovely brunch followed by a quick stop at Catalina State Park. I'm going to miss the hot weather and mountain views.

It's our anniversary. 24 years. It's so weird because it doesn't feel like it. Some years are hard, some are fun, some are extra spicy. But with the world the way it is and the rise in misogyny it sure is comforting to be with a man who not only puts me on a pedestal but spends his days doing is best to stay up there with me. This man will talk me up to anyone that'll listen. Sometimes it's embarrassing because he doesn't realize that other people don't think I'm the greatest in the world. The other day we were having a conversation about how my hobbies must be better than his because when he gets a hobby and is like "I'm going snowboarding" I say "k, bye, have fun". When I get a hobby I'm like "ok, I'm heading to class" and he's like "I wanna spin around a pole too". Then I realized my husband's main hobby is being with me. It doesn't matter what we're doing, if I'm going, he's willing to attend. Now that doesn't mean he forces his presence on me, but he'd rather be with me. And the best part of all is that he doesn't hide it or get embarrassed about it, he's proud of the fact that he adores his wife. When some douche says "man, you're whipped", he's like. "Yep.". That doesn't mean we don't argue, but we definitely act as a single unit.

Happy Father's Day to a truly present father. Of course I have pictures of him with all 4 kids and many with his great niece and nephews but we were busy enjoying our day so I didn't have time to find more. He really is the greatest guy I know in spite of his own father. When women would say "you're so lucky your husband actually does things with his children", I thought it was gross. That's not luck, that's called having standards. Just like men raising their own children and cleaning up after them and feeding them isn't babysitting or being a superhero, it's parenting. Unfortunately, especially as our society is going backwards, it is rare for men to be equal parents. No child will remember you paying the bills, they'll remember the moments they spent with you. In that way, I am lucky. I get to raise my kids with a true partner instead of doing it alone. My kids have a dad that actually wants to know them and spend time with them. So happy Father's Day to a truly great dad (and husband).

The final May birthday boy. So many pictures of him are with me or a child because that's the kind of guy he is.

Three houses, 4 kids, a few injuries, many surgeries, and 23 years later, we're still going strong. Happy Anniversary to my devoted, up for anything, sweet husband.
