Here is a glimpse into the magical day I had in the depths of Cornwall @prussiacove last week. The lovely @joannagame_flowers invited me to do a one day embroidery workshop and we made embroidered flowers and leaves inspired by the beautiful selection left after Jo’s Beltane weekend retreat(which really looked so divine). I have been trying to put this post together all weekend, it has been tricky to decide which photos to go with - there were so many beautiful moments!

In the morning we learnt a selection of great embroidery techniques and we spent the afternoon using them with lots of beautiful threads, ribbons and silks to make a single embroidered flower or leaf. It was so interesting to see which techniques and flowers the students decided to go with. We had Dandelions, Ammi, clematis, ranunculus to name a few. It was an opportunity to play with materials and it was so nice to see everyone embracing that!

Thank you @joannagame_flowers for inviting me down to do the class, to work and stay in the beautiful venue @prussiacove. Thanks to @botanical_tales @lisa_made_it @4jacquelinemills and everyone else for joining the class, such a talented group of ladies in such a special location it was a joy to teach you all!

🪡 NEW WORKSHOP 🪡 Learn how to do (my own version of) ‘white work’ embroidery and make your very own linen lampshade! Taking place over two consecutive weekends, i’m teaming up with my mum Ann who is a pro lampshade maker - she makes all mine!

When: Saturday 22nd/29th August 2-5pm BST

Where: ONLINE - via zoom

What will you learn?

The first session:
we will be learning three different embroidery techniques, and how we can work with them in different ways by using different materials and scale of embroidery. We will all do the three plants pictured; rudbeckia, daisy, and wheat/grass. You can do the same design as mine or make up your own!
With a week in between to finish the embroidery…

Second session:
Ann will expertly guide you through binding our frames, hemming our embroidered linen on a sewing machine and hand stitching our lampshades to our frames!

Suitable for beginners and improvers

🌾🌻 CORNISH FLOWER WORKSHOP 🌷🌼

•••ONE DAY WORKSHOP - on Tuesday 28th April •••

Just a few spaces left on this! Who’s joining me in Cornwall in April?

I am honoured to have been invited by floral artist Joanna Game @joannagame_flowers to host a one-day workshop on Tuesday the 28th April at Porth-en-alls situated in the breathtaking Prussia Cove @prussiacove in Cornwall.

The workshop will close Joanna’s renowned Beltane weekend retreat which runs from 24th - 26th April. (just 2 spaces left on her retreat!)

On this very special one day hand embroidery workshop, we will be making work inspired by local Cornish flora and fauna. During the class each student will make a textile artwork consisting of a range of techniques like ribbon work, fabric manipulation and hand embroidery techniques that i love to use in floral work.

We will work with a mixture of materials such as ribbons, braids, and threads to create joyful embroideries full of texture and colour. I will show you how to mount your work over mount board at the end of the class, ready to be framed.

Only basic sewing skills necessary for the class, but could also benefit people who are more experienced and would like to broaden their knowledge. Tea, coffee, snacks and lunch will be included in the ticket price and provided by a local chef using seasonal ingredients.

Magnolia season is here 🌱

A little break from the new collection to show you all this Magnolia i have been working on for a private commission this week.

I also want to remind you that i am running a few nice floral embroidery workshops this year, in particular i want to talk about a one day class at @prussiacove i am running on the 28th April, on the end of @joannagame_flowers Beltane creative retreat weekend.

What will you learn?
How to make flowers using ribbon techniques like the ones i used to make the Magnolia flower and bud pictured as well as loads of other lovely hand embroidery techniques suitable for complete beginners! The whole day centres on local flowers and we’ll get to look at some left over from Joanna’s lovely workshop over the weekend. All based in the beautiful landscape of Prussia Cove in Cornwall. We will have a relaxing day making beautiful embroidery. Everyone will go home with a small artwork which i’ll show you how to mount on a board.

If you are taking part in the Beltane weekend you can get 10% off my class, and the lovely @jamjar_edit will be running a flower pressing workshop on the 29th in the space which you can also get a discount for.

Here are some of the beautiful results from the one week embroidery retreat i taught @closmirabel last time I was there!

Join me from 17th-24th October this year on a one week intensive ‘Botanical embroidery retreat’ in the French Pyrenees, with gorgeous food and accommodation. Beautiful views and community.

This year will be joined by a very special guest Eleanor Langton @artofrest_ who will be helping us stretch out our backs and arms after days of stitching with some gentle yoga (optional) 🧘🏻
