Studioing: Looping Practice
8-9:30pm, 30th October
Sadler’s Wells East

Studioing is an invitation from our Artistic Cohort to play with the choreographic through dancing, thinking, dreaming, witnessing and studying together.

This session is hosted by Hanna Gillgren.
Welcome to a part workshop, part performance experiment based on Hanna Gillgren’s research Looping Practice, where she will test some new ideas from the practice.
Taking the action of looping as a starting point for generating material, the practice examines the relationship between body, sound, and space, negotiating practices of insistence, repetition, transformation and transmission.
In the space, everyone shares the responsibility for accumulating, presenting, replacing and reclaiming material, blurring any individual authorship to generate collective sonic and spatial patterns.

If you would like to attend this session, please sign-up on the event page on our website via the link in our bio.

(In) Company Morning classes are curated by Lorea Burge as part of their research within the Rose Choreographic School. Lorea invites artists that inspire and complement their practice to facilitate a class at the start of their working studio day. These classes will range across different artistic practices and mediums and are open to experienced practitioners to join in for free.

These sessions will be hosted by Elisa Vassena. Elisa (she/they) is a London based performer and dance artist with a visual art practice, a soft tissue therapist and an aspiring (and not quite yet) drummer. Elisa’s classes are grounded in somatic enquiry and peppered with a lot of imagining. The sessions will consist in softly guided improvisations, in solo and group constellations. We will cultivate lines of curiosity, attention and intention by focusing on different materialities in motion.

To book a space in this workshop, please visit the link in our bio.

Disclaimer from Lorea: I am aware that Sadler's Wells is in partnership with Barclays, a bank that is actively arming, supporting and profiting from Israel's apartheid regime against Palestinians. The Rose Choreographic School is hosted by Sadler’s Wells but is not funded by Barclays. Though we cannot disentangle ourselves completely from this complicity, I am actively engaged in the campaign against Barclays and the genocide and am involved conversations asking the institution to drop its ties. You can read a statement from the Rose Choreographic School cohort on the website.

In February we spent two weeks making the beginnings of a new show called ‘Earth, From Memory’.

It features four crew members from the starship interim. they are the descendants of humans who left Earth as it died. In the show they tell the story of Earth as it was passed down to them featuring, dance, song and drama.

so much love to
