I've been thinking a lot about creative expression and the various forms that it comes in, and I come back to the work we did on this last fall. We turned our attention to immigrants & refugees coming from the African Diaspora, Muslim countries, and eastern Europe with the goal to celebrate these communities with an emphasis on young adults in a multicultural Paris. Endlessly grateful to this team❤️

I’m excited to share I did my first professional photo shoot and it was for a @meta / @facebook campaign!! Here’s one of the shots I got back.

What an amazing experience. I’ve done plenty of interviews and media highlights, but this was my first time under the lights on a professional set that wanted to feature me, not for my “sad story” yet for my uniqueness and energy.

I have no experience or agent in this world, so it was wonderful to be handpicked for such a great opportunity. Initially, I was petrified, as I am for anything that puts me in the spotlight, but representation is so important to me. Representation seems inconsequential, but what we see is what we know, and what we don’t see stays in the shadows, encouraging continued ignorance.

I was honored to represent a community that makes up 26% of America AND globally. We are the largest and fastest growing minority group yet typically left out of the inclusion conversation…but no more!

I think society has taught us (from young) that we need to meet a certain marker, whether that’s a certain look or ability, but the only standard we need to meet is being who we are. Disability is the most human thing there is, and we are the only identity group anyone can become a member of. There’s more to us than the obvious. Don’t hide us.

The entire crew was wonderful. I met so many lovely people, from makeup to fashion to production, and I’m always amazed by projects that require dozens to hundreds of people working together for a common creative goal. It’s a beautiful thing. I heard from many that this was one of the nicest sets they’ve been on, and I’m happy to have been a part of it.

Thanks to FB Creative Director, @TobyKaufmann for including me, including disability & including the diversity that exists so people don’t feel alone. Thank you, casting @ kellicaton & @lilacperez for inviting me along, I had a blast! @tatiyanaelias @jaraeholieway, you were the coolest 😎 #kamswheelstravel #representationmatters #raredisease
