Since 2018 I have been producing a series of artwork inspired by traditional women’s clothing like Kimono and Huipils, which all feature my long recycled plastic tail feathers.

This piece was originally much shorter and proportioned like my other Huipil-inspired artworks. The colors are in both the Mexican and Italian flags.

I’m excited about making a longer dress length piece!

This piece will be in my upcoming solo show at the Civico Museo Parisi Valle in Lake Maggiore this summer. Please visit if you’re vacationing in Northern Italy this summer. July 11-October 25th.

When a curator takes the time to analyze and respond to our artwork, it’s an incredible opportunity for the artist and her viewers to understand more about the work. In my case, Dr. Milagros Bello has done an outstanding job identifying the art historical context and political movements that have informed my work and where it is positioned at this point in contemporary art history.

Curators have the experience and perspective to see our work in a different way than the casual viewer. Reading this article adds ideas about ecology, feminism, and postcolonial discourse to the understanding of my environmental work.

Dr. Bello’s extensive academic background brings new light and ideas to the reading of my work and she includes references to other philosophers such as Félix Guattari and Jacques Derrida which place it in a more nuanced conceptual framework.

My environmental fiber artwork is on view at MIA Curatorial Projects in Miami now through January 2026.

‼️🍾please join me in recognizing this fantastic news for just a beat: this piece, in full command of every plan you wrecked (2024), is now in the permanent collection @thejewishmuseum NYC! I’m sure I don’t need to explain why this particular acquisition is a significant one for me, but on top of my gratitude to the museum & those who made this possible, I also get to put my bestie & ride or die; my Katie; THE Katie; her fierce love & real solidarity; her fire & her grace; into art history. JEWISH ART HISTORY (noch)!
MAJOR thanks to @vsf & to @arielpenzer @ultralainer @lorinsky_collection cc: @katie_herrera

During these darkest of days, I have been reminded this Hanukkah of the importance of warmth and light from my family, friends, and the larger community. My daughter’s collage of found materials depicting the story of the Maccabees beautifully encapsulates this sentiment, as it serves as a reminder that we are not alone. It warms my heart to see the support and connection from other artists and members of the art world, reminding me that we are in this together.

As we celebrated the Festival of Lights we remembered the call for freedom and peace, to bring light and hope to all those who are struggling. We prayed for the release of all the hostages, freedom of Palestine from the oppressive rule of terrorists. For peaceful days for all of humanity.

Hinani, I am here, we are here and we are not going anywhere. We will grow this light.
