POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

💛❤️💛 Last week I had the opportunity to share my experiences of being a Community Researcher and ways to move forward. As part of LOROS I was honoured to be part of the PRI webinar.

The importance of recruiting the right people not just because of a tick box exercise! but the value, life experiences and what we bring to enhance the research right from the start. Its been an amazing journey and to see the outcomes and the work of future projects. I'm so grateful to have the opportunities to connect with these incredible people doing amazing work which will change the experiences of those recieving pallative & life limiting treatment in the future.

It was a really informative and wholesome conference, loved hearing about everyone else's insights and experiences in their roles.

As part of my reflections I shared a poem;

The Weight of Listening

I came with questions written on a page, Not knowing all the stories they would raise. I thought my role was simply to explore, To gather facts, to listen, and record. But somewhere in the silence of each voice, I learned that listening is a human choice.

Behind each answer lived a deeper truth, A quiet pain, a memory of youth. A struggle hidden underneath a smile, A journey walked alone for many miles. And every story that was shared with me Revealed a world beyond what eyes could see.

I heard the voices often left unheard, The broken hopes behind an ordinary word. The weight of waiting, fighting to belong, The courage it takes to keep standing strong. I saw that research is not just what we find; It is the care we carry in our minds.

For every number, there is someone’s face, A life deserving dignity and space. For every chart, a family’s silent plea, A hope that things might change for you and me. And every question that we dare to ask Must honour those whose lives become its task.

I learned that trust is fragile, deep, and slow, A seed that only care and time can grow. We cannot enter lives and simply take Their pain, their truth, their courage, and their ache. We must return what knowledge helps us see, With honesty, respect, and empathy.

Kaatje’s birthday & wedding anniversary surprise…

With Kaatje’s birthday and our wedding anniversary falling on the same day, I thought I’d surprise her with something a little different this year… an office makeover!

After months of renovating the house, the office really needed some love, so I decided to secretly transform it into a warm and calm space for her.

Lots of natural wood, a few design favourites, plenty of plants and, most importantly, a little coffee station to keep her going! ☕️🌿

Thankfully, she loved the surprise! ❤️

Swipe to the last slide to see what the room looked like when we first moved in. It’s come a long way! 😅

“I still can’t quite believe what I achieved."

“The distance I ran alongside the meaning behind the route makes it a day I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.

“All of my preparation, much of which took place within the club’s gym, meant for 35k my body held up really well and I was feeling good as well as being spurred on by both the support and company of friends and family.

“As I tipped over the 35k mark I had to dig deep pushing past discomfort that seemed to be arising in every part of my lower body”

💬

“Seeing Trent Bridge in the distance for the first time was an incredible feeling. I knew after 3 months of training and going from running just 8k, I was going to complete an ultramarathon.

“While there were times during the final 10k I was in a considerable amount of discomfort, I knew it was nothing compared to the physical and emotional pain my dad suffered following his terminal cancer diagnosis and subsequent chemotherapy treatment.

“I’m still so overwhelmed by all of the messages of support, encouragement and donations I’ve received from the run and I’m delighted to have raised more than £2,750 for LOROS.

It’s not just the blockbusters that make movie magic!

While we can’t wait to celebrate some of Hollywood’s biggest and most recent hits, A Night at the Movies will also be taking you back to some of cinema’s most iconic musicals!

From the wonderful musical numbers of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Follow the Fleet (1936), to the unforgettable songs of Funny Girl (1968) and the timeless classics of South Pacific (1958), we’ll be celebrating the music that has stood the test of time.

These are songs that have been loved by generations of audiences, and we can’t wait to bring them to life on stage alongside the music from more recent Hollywood favourites.

And best of all, we’ll be raising money for the amazing @loroshospice with an ambitious target of £10,000.

This is about as handmade as it’s gonna get! In order to maximise the amount going to @loroshospice - after hand drawing, scanning and doing proofs in Canva, I’m also printing, cutting, folding, packing all myself at home 🙏🏻

I did look into some third party printing options but the turnaround time was too long and the cost would just erode all profits going to the charity - which is the whole point of this project!

I’ll be revealing the designs properly soon and will need your help in deciding which ones I should keep in the collection, so please keep your eyes peeled 👀

Can you see any designs you like so far?! 🧑🏼‍🎄🎄
