POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

OUT TODAY! And just like that The Song of the Sun by me and @kim.lien.huynh with @templarbooks @bonnierbooks_uk is soaring into bookshops.

I have been so fortunate that @ameliamakesbooks
loved this story from the outset and her pairing of my words with Lîen's illustrations have made this book the precious treasure that it is.

@lorrainemonagle_design and @ameliamakesbooks are such a great team and I loved working with them. It has been a dream project ❤️

This is more than a migration story.
It is about fear of the unknown and how that can be overwhelming, but with a little support from just one voice we can do the unimaginable.

'Head up, wings wide and own the sky.
You will find your way.'

Only a few weeks till this gem is out in the world! Mariana has done an incredible job bringing all the constellation stories to life with her lively, colourful artwork. Even the endpapers are a thing of beauty. Tania at the Royal Observatory Greenwich made sure every astronomy fact was just right, and consultants from cultures all across the world provided stories and sources for me to work from. Lorraine, Rebecca and Sophie and som many others at Templar and RMG made the book happen. It's corny, but this is what I love best about working in publishing - seeing something wonderful being made that could not be done alone. And then seeing kids enjoy it.

I’m still pinching myself that I get to work with the incredible Katie Cottle and am super excited that we’ll be making more stories for Little Wolf together.

Thank you to @ameliamakesbooks @lozzycreates @lorrainemonagle_design and the whole Templar team for all the Little Wolf love, it’s a total joy to work with you all.

And of course, thanks also to my amazing agent @litagentclare and the entire @da_childrens team without whom none of this would have happened!

5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 BOOK REVIEW

Thanks so much to @bonnierbooks_uk for sending me the copy of Magpie and the Sparkling Worlds by @lucymayrowland .

@lorrainemonagle_design .

@templarbooks .

@plum_agency .

@craigshuttlewood

About the book:

A heartening rhyming picture book that celebrates the natural world with a vocabulary-rich story from award-winning, bestselling author Lucy Rowland and illustrations sparkling with joy from Craig Shuttlewood.

In a MYSTICAL wood stood a MAGICAL tree - the home of BRILLIANT Magpie. From her nest, Magpie listens to the wonderful words of her fellow woodland animals.

Words with a sparkle, a shimmer, a shine, entwined in her nest in the tree.
She gathered them up and giggled, "They're mine - these sparkling words just for me!"

But eventually, the other animals stay quiet so their words aren't being whisked away. Only then does Magpie realise that the silent wood doesn't glitter in the same way as before. After a storm destroys Magpie's nest, and sends her stash of sparkling words zooming back out into the forest, she finally learns that it is unity, kindness and sharing language that makes the words sparkle.

This lyrical story effortlessly weaves exciting vocabulary alongside important themes of sharing, kindness and teamwork, encouraging readers to find the fun in literacy and share sparkling words with each other. This powerful picture book is perfect for story time and children's language development. The ideal bookshelf companion to The Lost Words, The Word Collector and The Pencil.

REVIEW:

What a nice, cute story this was. Both fun and educational, it's packed full of lots of interesting words for children to learn as they read along.

And what about the illustrations? They're so beautiful in calm, natural colours and the text used is a good size, clear and easy for little eyes to read.

I read this with our youngest Daughter, Amelie-Rose and we both really enjoyed it.

A big 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from us.

I’m very excited to share the cover of my next picture book, Penguin’s Egg, written by the incredible author Anna Kemp and published by @puffinbooksuk on 2nd May 🐧💙 An equally sweet and funny story about a dad Penguin’s slightly chaotic journey back to his egg before it hatches, it was an absolute joy to illustrate Anna’s amazing text and work with the fabulous team at Puffin. Out very soon!
