“‘I’m serious, Father. People who are born here ... I’m sorry. I should’ve learned to hold my tongue by now.’

‘No. Please feel free to speak your mind. Say whatever you’d like to say.’”

Clips from Kingdom of Heaven, a short play by Rich Rubin, directed by @vythompson ; A priest (Brock Jones @losbrock ) & his immigrant parishioner confront the new American reality; part of the lineup for @townestreettheatre ‘s production of In Response 2025: Rise Up.

We live in the bully’s land. It makes me sick to my stomach and it’s a fact we Americans have to live with whether we like it or not.

The LEAST we can do is call out the bullshit.

As I watched a video essay on YouTube by the channel Live Wire Show titled The REVOLUTION STARTS with the ARTS (HIGHLY recommend), this quote struck me the most:

“When it comes to fighting oppression, our imaginations can be our sharpest weapons.”

Artists, may this be the alarm bell you need to spring into action. SPEAK TF UP PLEASE!

I know protest art is scary but any bit of work we put in calling out injustice gives us agency.

Now is as good time as ever to start.

Luckily for you writers out there, Towne Street Theatre is seeking bold new works to produce: the 13th annual Ten-Minute Play Festival is back and this year’s theme is “Blast from the Past.”

Submissions are due today at 11pm PST.

For more info and to submit your short play/monologue, visit townestreetla.org

And if you made it this far thinking you can’t contribute to the movement for liberation, think again! You can follow @immdef_lawcenter and make a donation. You can volunteer @humanliberationco for their mutual aid initiatives. You can join @citizensimpeachment on Feb 17 for their national day of lobbying to impeach Trump and abolish I C E

You could also stop scrolling past things that make you uncomfortable pretending nothing will affect YOUR world.

Take it in. No one can save us but ourselves y’all, it’s really that simple.
