One word: Surreal. From waiting backstage and hearing my name announced… To stepping onto the red circle… To sharing an idea from the heart… To hearing the audience react, applaud, and cheer… To the hugs backstage afterward… The entire TEDx experience was surreal. But what made it so meaningful wasn’t the few minutes on stage. It was everything that came before it. The flights. The hotels. The conferences. The networking events. The speeches. The podcasts. The books. The countless conversations. The setbacks. The delays. The denials. The cancellations. The near misses. The frustrations. The tears. The sleepless nights. The moments I wanted to quit. The rehearsals. The script revisions. The coaching sessions. The hours and hours of preparation. And the decision to keep going anyway. What I’ll remember most isn’t just the stage. It’s the people. The coaches. The organizers. My fellow speakers. The incredible stories. The vulnerability. The courage. The friendships that were formed along the way. We started this journey as strangers. We leave it as family. I’m still replaying the experience in my head. Still processing it all. But I know this much: TEDx wasn’t the finish line. It’s a beginning. The talk is over. The real work starts now. One word. Surreal. ❤️🎤 #TEDx #TEDxSpeaker #IdeasWorthSpreading #PublicSpeaking #Storytelling Leadership PersonalGrowth Gratitude DreamBig SpeakerLife TEDxJourney ThisIsJustTheBeginning

Though it’s been around since July 2021 (as its current iteration), @ironworkshtx is another fun spot in the East End/Second Ward (Segundo Barrio) that houses a handful of homegrown concepts. From @worldfamoussecondslice and @segundocoffeelab, to @themoodroomhouston and @thehallatironworks, it has a real grassroots, community-driven feel to it. (Given that a lot of the people that work here or use it as a co-working space also live in the area.) Just a few blocks north of music venue @superhappyfunlandhouston and classic dive bar D&W Lounge - as well as a few blocks south of Voodoo Queen Daiquiri Dive (@daiquiridive) - it fits in to the ever-evolving and quickly developing area. Like Brooklyn, Silver Lake/Echo Park, or Oakland - the East End offers business opportunities for anyone that’s been priced out of Montrose, the Heights, and most things West of I-45 (whose 2024-2040 $13B expansion - aka NHHIP - has already displaced a lot of businesses and homes.) But for Andrew Kaldis of Kaldis Development (@kaldisdevelopmentinterests), who has developed tons of other properties in Houston (Montrose, Downtown, Midtown), he took a 64,000sf warehouse built in the 1930s that used to house Cameron Iron Works and turned it into a social hub that has retail stores (@cargovintagehouston, @bowehouse), book shops (@dreamers.bookstore, @mossrosebookshop), a tattoo studio (@technicolortattoohtx), a dispensary (@segundo_lab), and a full photo studio (@superbstudio.co ) - amongst others. For a lot of these people, that’s an opportunity to fulfill dreams and provide for themselves. (Along with a gift these days - free parking!) Since then, he’s been working on Phase 2 by developing 38,000sf at 3901 Capitol Street - just down the street - into a mixed-used creative campus of sorts. Based off his success with 807 Taft (where Bludorn is), the 2300 Block of Bissonnet St (where Vinology is), and the 1800 Block of Westheimer (where Milk + Sugar is) - his track record bodes well for further shared success. 🤘🏼 Ironworks 711 Milby St Houston, TX 77023
