(better late than never ๐Ÿ™ƒ)

April was SUCH a good reading month for me ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ“š

I found some new favourites, had lots of 5 star reads, and honestly just felt completely pulled back into that magical โ€œcanโ€™t stop thinking about this bookโ€ kind of reading mood. The best feeling.

I read across a bit of everything this month too - literary fiction, thriller, fantasy, uplifting cosy mystery & slightly strange books that blur the line between reality and imaginationโ€ฆ.... and somehow they all worked for me.
Definitely one of those months where my only problem was deciding what to pick up next because everything was hitting ๐Ÿ˜…

ใ€‹ใ€‹Did you have a standout read in April? Or a book youโ€™re still thinking about? Let me know if you've read any of these ones - I'd love to hear your thoughts!

๐Ÿ“š2025 - Reflections on my reading year๐Ÿ“š

I read 61 books in 2025, a significant reduction on the previous year whether that is measured in books or pages. But Iโ€™m fine with that. Life had a very different look last year compared with the previous year, and while the quantity declined, the quality remained gratifyingly high due to the generosity of spirit of friends and publishers.

53 of the books were fiction, 8 were nonfiction. Orbital was the shortest, The Goldfinch the longest.

As has been the case for a few years now, I read more books written by women (34) than men (27).
45 of the books were written by authors who I hadnโ€™t read before, and I โ€œdiscoveredโ€ some fantastic writers including Niall Williams and Fiฬona Scarlett, both of whom feature in my top 12 reads of the year. Along with Ian McEwan, these were the only writers I read more than one book by in 2025.

Here are the books that stood out for me in 2025.
