Just got my Grapefruit Drip in earlier. Sprayed the current iteration of Creed Aventus on my right hand. Drip on my left.

The immediate difference in the opening is presence. One spray of each, and despite the massive difference in oil concentration, which would typically affect evaporation and diffusion, Drip still projected significantly louder than Aventus.

In comparison, Aventus felt one-dimensional and very easy to read. Flat, if you will. Drip opened up incredibly juicy, to the point where my mouth was watering from the tartness of the grapefruit, currant and pineapple. I cannot stress just how edible this opening was. My pupils damn near dilated.

Within the first hour, it became quite clear what was bound to happen. Aventus had already begun dying out. (1/2) ➡️

Drip, on the other hand, continued to push off the skin, its progression into the heart unfolding well after Aventus had already reached its darker base. Already quite impressive. While Aventus had plateaued, Drip was revealing more of its lavender, birch, moss and patchouli. The grapefruit still as present as ever.

Hour 4. Aventus is a tint on my skin at this point, literally a bodiless skin scent. Drip is beginning to reveal more of the meat and potatoes that make up its base. Deep, still juicy, tart, slightly smoky and earthy. You get every bit of that oakmoss and lavender, though everything is remarkably well blended. As far as the blending of this composition is concerned, Mat, you’ve done an amazing job. This is one of your best fragrances to date.

Hour 7. As I write this, Aventus is literally just Iso E Super, Ambroxan and Helvetolide on my skin. Molecules fighting to survive. Drip is still at that stage where everything is working harmoniously to create what is, in essence, a bolder Aventus-like scent.

Now, this is not Aventus, nor does it smell exactly like Aventus. If that’s what you were hoping for, I think you’ll be mildly displeased. If you were looking for something with amplified presence, kaleidoscopic dimension and longevity, this is that. Imagine every note in Aventus magnified, with LT DNA coursing through its veins. The grapefruit and heart of this composition will feel v

𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐁𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐔𝐌𝐄𝐒 🇺🇸 New York

Another perfume friend, another discovery! 🖤

This time I found myself exploring Lost Tribe Perfumes, an independent perfume house from New York.

And before I even started reading about the fragrances, their visuals had already pulled me in. Dark, atmospheric, mysterious, almost cinematic. I have a weakness for beautiful presentations, and these people certainly know how to create a mood!

But then I started looking at the actual perfumes. And things got even more interesting.

Three immediately caught my attention.

𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐋 𝐕𝟐 ⛽ Now THIS sounds like my territory! Gasoline, exhaust fumes, smoke, leather, oud and castoreum. An almost industrial landscape translated into perfume. I love unusual synthetic, metallic and smoky sensations, especially when something rough meets something beautiful. On paper, Diesel V2 sounds absolutely fascinating. Probably not everyone's idea of smelling good, but that's exactly what makes me curious!

𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐒 🖤 Ambergris, patchouli and labdanum. Dark, powdery, slightly sweet and mysterious. A completely different atmosphere, but equally tempting. And the visuals for this one? Gorgeous!

𝐂𝐘𝐁𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐃 ⚡ Oud with an unexpected twist of nettle, lotus and violet leaf, with an almost metallic character. Futuristic, strange and definitely something I'd love to explore.

Of course, I haven't smelled any of them yet. This is a discovery, not a review. And with perfumes at this price level, my curiosity will probably have to remain curiosity for a while! 😅

But I love discovering houses that dare to be different. Whether a fragrance eventually wins me over or not, originality always gets my attention.

And Lost Tribe certainly has mine!

Dark shadows | @losttribeperfumes is the counterpart to Pan’s labyrinth and builds on the powder accord with photorealistic fruits and citrus. The blood orange in the opening is the most realistic blood orange I’ve experienced in a fragrance and it lasts well into the hear transition. The blend of citrus, florals, and ambergris make for an opening as bright as the sun, this begging the question—why is this called Dark Shadows? The light wanes and shadows emerge, stretching out further and further until the sun has set and a new world emerges. “There is shadow under this red rock
(Come in under the shadow of this red rock),
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.”

Patchouli, moss, tobacco, Labdanum, and Papua and Merauke oud make for a textured deep dark base. Phenomenal.

La Beauté

Je suis belle, ô mortels! comme un rêve de pierre,
Et mon sein, où chacun s’est meurtri tour à tour,
Est fait pour inspirer au poète un amour
Eternel et muet ainsi que la matière.

Je trône dans l’azur comme un sphinx incompris;
J’unis un coeur de neige à la blancheur des cygnes;
Je hais le mouvement qui déplace les lignes,
Et jamais je ne pleure et jamais je ne ris.

Les poètes, devant mes grandes attitudes,
Que j’ai l’air d’emprunter aux plus fiers monuments,
Consumeront leurs jours en d’austères études;

Car j’ai, pour fasciner ces dociles amants,
De purs miroirs qui font toutes choses plus belles:
Mes yeux, mes larges yeux aux clartés éternelles!

— Charles Baudelaire. Beauty. Olfactory bliss crafted by @losttribeperfumes and @yaaseen.llc. Two of my favorite artists have created one of the most beautiful fragrances in my olfactory memory.

Beauty has a way of altering the soul, lifting us beyond the habitual motions and doldrums of daily life. She descends from the ideal into the sensible world, igniting the heart and bringing Eros to life. What was once an abstraction becomes an encounter. Beauty no longer merely contemplated, but experienced and lived in.

This fragrance bears the distinct imprint of Matt and Moustafa, yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Wearing Beauty invites me to interrogate the Beautiful in ways that other art forms sometimes cannot. Olfactory art envelops us; it does not merely present an object for contemplation, but transforms the space in which contemplation takes place. We are immersed in the work, change it with our own odeur and from within it, inquiry and discovery begin.

I am grateful to the artists, the cultivators, the regions that give these materials their character, and to Nature herself, in her inexhaustible act of creation. There is something profoundly moving about this chain of becoming: the earth gives forth its materials, human hands shape them, and the resulting work opens a space for experiences that exceed its individual parts.

May your liquid be forever greater than your cup.

SOTD: Caleb

As the self proclaimed Fougere Fanatic, I believe I can stay that this one is one of the best Fougeres in the artisanal space. Lavender, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, and Bergamot come together to create a beautiful fougere accord, with accompanying florals adding depth in the background. Rooted in the base are these beautiful ouds, creating a damp, green backdrop for the fragrance.

Genuinely so happy to finally have this one in my collection after about a year of searching for it, once again well done my friend @losttribeperfumes

Zilla| @losttribeperfumes has a serious bite! Snappy opening of Neroli, lemon, and gardenia are pulled together by some feral civet funk. Zilla is aggressive, bracing, and hold you in an intense tension that’s unlike anything that I’ve recently encountered. There is something lizard like. Perhaps it is the way time scurries between the notes, or the aggressive posturing, or the tail whipping tartness that lingers through the wear experience. This lizard walks on an and esrthy base of costus root which blends extremely well with the civet, and sharp green notes which evoke grass that’s been cut down with by Zilla’s havoc-wreaking tail. Matt does a great job using the civet and Oud to tame this beast just enough to keep wearable while allowing it to remain a giant lizard with its own logic, its own movement, and its own identity. This is truly wild yet it is wearable. Background art by C.G. Jung (Liber Novus)

Pan’s labyrinth @losttribeperfumes is a novel interpretation of the fougere category and is simply exceptional. I have been on a hunt for the fougere that most resonates with me and I have found it in Pan’s Labyrinth. It’s a collab between Matt and Dr. Rajesh that must be experienced if you are a lover of fougeres. The most novel aspect of it for me is the powder accords and the use of butter almond. The powder accord evokes the warm shaving cream of the barbershop and the dusting of talcum powder while the bottle almond brings a metallic aspect which represents the sharp cold steel of a well stropped razor. This is one labyrinth that I’m happy to get lost in for many moons to come. Great olfactory art brings you into the labyrinth of twists and turns and pulls you in directions you had not anticipated. This pulls you into the dialectic of concealment and disclosure— forces you to observe and refrain from imposing thoughts to your perceptions. Yet it also begs the question of whether we can ever separate our thoughts from perceptions. Whether our words and categories determine what we experience and whether those very same words, when used in the right combination, might be both the key and the lock. Art is from Liber Novus —C.G. Kong | @losttribeperfumes
Kong did not appeal to me on paper but it has been a great surprise. Upon spraying a cloud of banana, musk, and pumpkin spice envelops you (yeah, you read that correctly) and pulls you deeper in. It’s totally alluring and provocative and it shocked me so much that I laughed aloud. The gourmand leaning opening transitions to a creamy floral heart of Bitter almond, frangipani, magnolia, and . Supporting this strange melange are four types of Oud, further embellished by Labdanum, benzoin, and barley. This one is a smooth, dynamic, and beautifully strange.
Kong represents what I love about independent artesianal perfumery— unchained by market demands and liberated by the creative spirit.
