I would rather have rock toe for 18 days than pass The Garden of Eden camp

Wow, 2026 bb! This season taught me to never quit while you’re ahead because the jackpot is always on the next pull 🎰

Waves of nostalgia pour over me and yet I cannot help but to be reminded of the way this season required my entire heart. And my whole heart it got! Inside that beating heart, are my friends.

If I was a betting woman, which I am, I’d say what I’ve always said, which is, “you win some, you don’t win others - never lose!!”
I completely lucked out. Grateful for another opportunity to do what I love, in the places I love, and share it with the people I love.

AND I’D DO IT AGAIN!

I had a huge essay written about how much this win means because I battle my body and mind so much. Maybe I’ll share it sometime soon, but instagram has a word count and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t cut it down so for now here is my thoughts and feelings on NFC.

I almost didn’t register. I broke my right wrist last summer and now have a plate and 6 screws holding me together. I’ve been busting my butt on rehab, but this spring was rough getting back into paddling.

I am so unbelievably happy with my paddling. I’ve won a lot of stuff, but I never have felt like I was paddling to my maximum in a race until now.

I’m so proud of my body for performing when I needed it to. On top of the Beetus, celiac, and hypothyroid, I also have been diagnosed with endometriosis now and while having an explanation for my flare ups has been wonderful, it hasn’t stopped the chronic pain, stomach issues, and exhaustion. I spent the couple days before NFC in bed not practicing because of a flare up. This race was also one of the best blood sugar events I’ve ever had!

Lastly I’m proud of my mind. I’ve battled with depression and self harm for a long time now. I have put so much work into healing my mind and body these last few years and I’m so happy to betruly be seeing the fruits of my efforts at last. I tried to commit suicide in 2019 and I wish I could hug 19 year old Sage and tell her this is where she would be now. Happy and doing what I love.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support I received around the race. From @voorheesconnor, @crazyridgebackmom, and @samiolrus.yak for videoing, helping me with lines, and carrying my boat on laps when my blood sugar got low (and Sam for being the best training partner 💕). To all my friends cheering me on I’ve never felt so loved 🥰

Lastly, I want to thank all of the volunteers, safety, road, and media crews. And especially to @aurarogers, @_gnarli_carli_, @d_larrow_, @johnjwebster, James, and everyone else who made NFC come back! It’s the best event in the world!

Thankyou to all the new friends and old ones who made the last 4 weeks in Banks so much fun.

Hobby horsing, cocktail hour, long coffee mornings, dance parties, minimal phone coverage and many laps!

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a bunch of amazing people who made this trip soo good. On top of that the North Fork gave us amazing, fun and challenging kayaking every day.
