🩵 World Mental Health Day is winding down, but here’s a little reminder for tomorrow, too.

Find your peace. Find your happy. Make a little room for whatever brings you back to yourself.

Peel a sumo citrus in the shower. Breathe in that citrus and steam. Eat it. Yes, in the shower. Trust me on this one.

Then finish your shower and strike your superhero pose. No photo of me doing that because, well, ain’t nobody got time for that. But here are a few of my favorite superheroes. 🦸🏻‍♂️

Dance in the kitchen. Especially if you have an Ashley to dance with.

Put your feet in the sand. Let the cold ocean wash over them. Feel it. You’re here. You’re alive.

Go to a record store. Find something awesome. Share it with your fabulous daughter in her best ’80s Jazzercise gear. Apparently, happy can look like John Denver and pink leg warmers.

Look in the mirror and say, “I’m living under a lucky star and everything’s going my way.”

And believe it.

Some days, peace is easier to find than happy. Some days, a kitchen dance is what you’ve got. Give yourself a little grace, and keep making room for the things and people that help you feel like you. 🩵

Happy fall, my favorite season. 🍂

Ashley surprised me with tickets to an autumnal equinox sound bath last night, and we spent such a beautiful evening among the flowers. Harvest is always about grabbing whatever time we can together, so with things wrapping up early this year, we made the most of it.

Then back to her place for “Would you like a glass of bubbles before you leave?”

And another splash. And another splash.

Lots of soul-affirming laughter and a few more inside jokes secured.

Love you, Ashley. What a lovely way to welcome fall.

Extra bonus: my chakras are now aligned.

Today was Riesling day for @readhollandwines ! It’s very rare that I use absolutes in wine but I have no doubt about this, nobody in California makes better Riesling. Wiley Vineyard is an outstanding site for Riesling as you’ll hear why from Brad Wiley in this video. And my friend @lottyashley has the talent to get the most from this site. I spent 10 years in the German wine society and developed a true love for Riesling. I learned from my friend @hawk_wakawaka to taste California Riesling differently, to appreciate the different qualities you find here. Ashley’s Wiley Vineyard Riesling is truly world class. It has a texture that I’ve never tasted in Riesling from anywhere else. My high praise was confirmed one night I had @paulpujol over for dinner, an amazing New Zealand winemaker that makes some pretty outstanding Riesling too. We opened some amazing bottles that night and the only bottle we finished was the Read Holland Riesling, he went back and filled his glass three times. I watched him contemplating what he was tasting in every sip. If you haven’t tried this wine, I highly recommend you get some. It’s amazing!

Last night I made dinner for my dear friend @leanneliveswell . I made three courses, we started off with spicy cucumber noodles, then Hamachi Crudo. And because my friend Leanne is gluten-free I’ve been saving a box of @flowercheffoods pasta to make just for Leanne. And @flowerchefjules a good friend of my dear friend @lottyashley , she gave me the gluten-free pasta when they were over my house for cocktails. I’ve been saving it ever since for Leanne. It’s quite delicious and has a beautiful bite. It was just perfect for my new favorite summertime sauce of yellow heirloom tomatoes from a @cocolarkincooks recipe.

For pairings we started off with a bottle of Ashley’s @readhollandwines 2023 Chardonnay ‘Peugh Vineyard’ from the Russian River Valley. This Wine is incredibly delicious and exactly what Leanne was hoping for in a selection out of my wine cellar. Listen to her video description, I made her repeat her initial reaction just because of how much she loved the wine. And then with the pasta dish because I’ve already tried this pairing we went with the @ryme_cellars 2025 Rosé of Aglianico. I’ve had most vintages as of this Wine going all the way back to the first vintage. In my opinion, this is the best vintage yet and just perfect pairing for this dish. Just a super fun night with my friend Leanne who I don’t get to see nearly often enough.

Being able to grab two quick hours with Ashley in the thick of harvest is a rare treat.

The flowers and tomatoes gathered from her garden, along with the eggs rescued from extinction in her refrigerator, were simply icing on the cake.

And then I came home with all my bounty to this sky, which clearly called for a cocktail and a little time to sit and take it all in.

Tonight’s full moon is slipping almost entirely into Earth’s shadow in a deep partial lunar eclipse. If ever there were a night to release what no longer serves us, trust that the light is still there and let some shit go, this feels like it.

Or, as my glass so eloquently put it...

This morning I stopped by to see my friend @lottyashley at Punchdown Cellars as she had some Chardonnay arrive from the Martaella Estate Vineyard in the Russian River Valley AVA. This video gets pretty geeky as Ashley explains how she navigates the programming of the pressure cycles of a wine press. And how each site not only requires different pressures and sequencing. But also how she tastes the juice during the process to adjust to change or end the pressing. Watch until the end to hear about how different sites require customization to get the exact flavors and textures she’s looking to achieve.

The Martaella Estate Vineyard Chardonnay is for the delicious @adonnawines and it is used for a Single Vineyard bottling.
I look forward to tasting some of the previous vintages and the 2026 when it’s released now that I had the privilege to taste the freshly pressed juice.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what we carry.

Last night, the full moon hung over the vineyard, bright enough to light the vines.

Tonight, we likely won’t see it at all.

Smoke from the Jenner fire has settled over us. We are safe, and I am grateful. But the smell, the haze, the strange color of the sky… if you’ve lived through wildfire, your body remembers before your mind does. That lump in your throat you forgot was even there suddenly returns.

Nine years ago this October, we evacuated in the middle of the night as the Tubbs Fire raced through Sonoma County. Willow, my mom, and our cat Oliver piled into the car.

As we drove away, the weight of that moment settled over me.

Willow.

My mom.

Oliver.

I was in charge.

My goodness… this is on me.

We were away for ten days. When we finally came home, our house was still standing. We were among the lucky ones. I have never forgotten that.

Earlier that year, I had moved into the first home I had ever bought on my own. The little house we had been renting in Coffey Park burned to the ground the night of the Tubbs Fire.

Sometime later, I went back. From the ashes, I picked up a rock from the front yard. I remembered Willow standing on it, practicing her balance.

The Buddha that had always sat beside that rock had already moved with us. Years later, they sit together again outside my home.

This week has also reminded me of something else we carry.

Ashley is away pouring wine, and I’m on Arrow duty. Before she left, she set a vase of dahlias from her garden on the table for me.

A conversation with Rachel at The Grove left me energized.

The quiet ways we show up for one another. The flowers. The conversations. The “Are your windows closed?” texts. The checking in. The small kindnesses that become much bigger than they seem.

Last night, the moon lit up the vineyard.

Tonight, the smoke has hidden it from view.

And that rock reminds me that even after the fire, there is something worth carrying home.
