This man is a life artist!

Lawrence Evan Dotson aka Loupy D was born in Los Angeles, California. He decided early in life that he wanted to tell stories. He was a character who could entertain his two older sisters by staging his own version of a church radio broadcast that they would listen to on Sunday nights. His desire to perform followed him through grade school, and in his senior year of high school, a UCLA professor scouted and urged Lawrence to major in theater. Lawrence felt convicted to follow in the footsteps of his father, so instead of declaring Theater Arts as a freshman, he went in undeclared to sit out for a spot in the highly competitive engineering school. It only took one calculus class to convince Lawrence that Theater Arts was his calling and that he was going to achieve his goal of being recognized for his talents.

Head over to his website to read the continuation of his achievements.

Every time I hear how my work has helped a mother feel supported, seen, and nurtured in her postpartum journey—how it’s eased her recovery, helped her avoid postpartum depression, or assisted in creating a successful breastfeeding journey—I honestly weep with joy. 💛
It feels like I’m holding space not only for her but for the version of me who once struggled in postpartum. Every family I support is part of my own healing, too.
So grateful to share some kind words from the amazing families I’ve had the honor to work with. 💫

**Black Pacifica at Alabaster Projects has been extended till December 1st!**

Images from the exhibition Black Pacifica in LA, the culmination of a collaborative Summer School Program between NewCrits (@newcrits) and Black Image Center (@blackimagecenter).

Black Pacifica forges a generative space to contemplate the localities of Black Identity. The title, inspired by the Chrysler Pacifica, alludes to the vehicle’s iconic silhouette commonly seen in Angeleno communities, symbolizing accessibility and connection. Pacifica also evokes the Pacific Ocean, opening a space for reflection on modernity and the evolving diasporic experience alongside Western expansion through both colonialism and contemporary migration.

The exhibition is curated by Blessing Greer-Mathurin under the mentorship of Ajay Kurian.
