Sept 27 at @TownHallNYC opening for Roger Daltrey, it was great to see Brooklyn singer-songwriter @LeslieMendelson 🎤 🎸 🎹, who I first saw with her songwriting collaborator/producer Steve McEwan 🎸 🎤 (@WorldPartyKarlWallinger; he also co-wrote songs with Daltrey, Kylie Minogue, and Jon Batiste) winning over the classic rock audience when they opened for @OfficialTheWho when they played @TheGarden with an orchestra in 2019.

Joined again by McEwan, with fine backing from @LowEndHess (Black Crowes, John Scofeld) on bass and @JohnMorganKimock 🥁, Mendelson played new and older songs that evoke classic Laurel Canyon with her rich, heartfelt vocals, including the hypnotic "Jericho", and the McCartney/Beatles vibe of 2020 single "Lay It All On Me" (posted here in an extended clip) from excellent @RoyalPotatoFamily LP If You Can't Say Anything Nice..., which was released in April 2020 during the thick of Covid-19 and deserves more recognition.

I’m still on a high from playing the @theryman last week. So grateful for the opportunity. Big thanks to Roger Daltrey, the band and crew for having me and to my incredible band that night Steve, Johnny and Andy!! And of course @royalpotatofamily - This was one for the books.

Here’s a little clip of a new song. I haven’t recorded it yet. It’s called When It Comes To Love.

We’ll see you again in NYC at the @townhallnyc on September 27th!!

“She hired me because she knew she was dying. So, whenever I was there, it was a reminder she’s going to die. We didn’t always talk about it at all, but I knew that she knew that I knew, and vice versa... you know? So, I was the reminder in person. And she knew that I had my eye, and I knew that I had my eye on the end, even if we didn’t talk about it. So, there was a comfort in knowing someone else was... had this. I could carry it for her.”
-Emma, end-of-life doula

«Death Doula» explores dying, grief and the importance of human connection at the end of life. This body of work focuses on end-of-life doulas in New York – nonmedical professionals who offer emotional support to people who are dying and their families. As companions, listeners, and guides, they create a space where fears, grief, and uncertainty can be expressed and shared, offering comfort and helping to carry the weight of the inevitable. Since October 2025, I’ve been photographing six doulas alongside places and objects that evoke the calm and peace they convey. Through these encounters, the work explores how death can be approached with openness rather than silence or fear, contributing to the growing dialogue about how we understand and experience death, dying, and grief.
