THE STICKY CATCH DRILL 🚣πŸ”₯

This is one of my favorite drills to use in a rowing warm-up because it lets an athlete actually FEEL what full-body connection at the catch should feel like.

For the Sticky Catch Drill, we attach a strap that holds the athlete in the catch position with their body suspended about an inch off the seat.

And that’s where the magic happens.

When you’re suspended there, you immediately feel everything that needs to be engaged at the start of a powerful rowing stroke:

πŸ”₯ Your core is braced
πŸ”₯ Your lats are engaged and connected to the handle
πŸ”₯ Your hamstrings and glutes are loaded
πŸ”₯ Your feet are connected to the footplates
πŸ”₯ Your body is creating tension before the drive even begins

You’re not just sitting at the catch anymore.

You’re connected at the catch.

That feeling of suspension and full-body tension is exactly what we want athletes to learn to recreate on every stroke β€” without the strap.

That’s why I love putting this drill into a warm-up. It wakes up the right muscles, reinforces connection, and gives the athlete a physical reference for what a strong catch should feel like.

Feel the connection. Remember the feeling. Recreate it every stroke. 🚣πŸ’₯

Today, we celebrate four incredible student-athletes who are graduating from our program and continuing their rowing careers at the collegiate level.

πŸ’™ Brooke β†’ Duke University
⭐ Talene β†’ Vanderbilt University
πŸ’› Ava β†’ University of Delaware
πŸ’š Caelin β†’ Loyola University Maryland

Watching these athletes grow from beginners into confident competitors, leaders, and teammates has been one of the greatest rewards of coaching. Their success is a testament to years of hard work, early mornings, perseverance, and a commitment to the process.

At Concept Crew, our mission has always been bigger than rowing. We strive to use this sport to open doors, build character, and create opportunities for young athletes to achieve their goals. Seeing these four take the next step in their journey is exactly why we do what we do.

We couldn’t be prouder of everything they have accomplished, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve at the next level.

Congratulations, Brooke, Talene, Ava, and Caelin. Once a Concept Crew athlete, always a Concept Crew athlete. πŸš£β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ
