What did I find in this season of love?

An ever longing love for Christmas Bells? Yes. Tenderness. Pride. Care. Acceptance. Laughs. Tears. New point of views. New faces. Death. But most of all, Creation.

Little did I know that turning up at a Halloween party (MY favorite holiday 😘thank you @rafacheco_25 and @macie.Pacheco), and meeting @tylermilicic would turn the trajectory of my summer into what it’s been. You were so careful to make this show the piece of art it is. I am so glad to have been a part of this live medium we got to create together. I cannot wait to work with you again 💝

I remember walking into auditions at historic abandoned building where I saw a group of people who were clearly already a family and thinking
1. Wow these people are blowing me away with their energy and talent
2. I immediately want to know them
3. I’m gonna 💩 my pants there no way I’m gonna get this role r u kidding me??

(Scroll for more sappy captions 🫶🏽)

I remember reading with @pnorm992 as Mimi and Roger for the first time and thinking “damnit if this ain’t it I don’t know WHAT” I’m so grateful to have told this story with you by my side. Not just singing at or with you, but INTO your eyes. To tell this story of love transcending all was unforgettable. I’d pretend to die in your arms whenever just to hear your voice in my ears again 💞I couldn’t have done this……without you 🥹

I remember singing along side @ezrimaldonado, @Rachel.farage , @lozerlia , and @Gigi_kokai thinking I’d be so lucky to even get to perform on stage with y’all! We did it and looked HOT doing it! 🥵 To have each of you melt my face off in pure luxurious talent night after night was an honor! I guess I’ll have to wait for the day we link and go out tonight 😻

I got to match energy with people old and new! @bigwizard.llc @jill.d.palmer @w._.fander @ajmarch27 @j_h_w_f @xcasyala @mu_nawa @abbers.crabbers.06 @dregnum_ @big_blubs, @avt_moore22 @randy_wysocky @footerest and everybody on crew! To hear all your inflections to each of the characters you played made my heart so full. You wouldn’t believe how much mimicking and free style dance I did to your singing while I was off stage.

Where do you begin with a show like this? I got to be someone I never thought possible! One of the most important roles in history and I got to play her? I had such bad imposter syndrome but every single person in this show made me so inspired and happy. Soon enough I wasn’t trying my best to “be better” I wanted to make them proud. This is one of my favorite productions of all time.

My bro bro, my moon @w._.fander thank you for being my rock and making this production what it is. If not for you, this role wouldn’t be what it is.

@chrissy_577 you made me look so fabulous and I’m so happy that you were involved because it wouldn’t be the same without you!

All of my other lead cast mates, you are all so amazingly talented and I was so happy to know who I was working with. I am so comfortable around you and so so happy that I get to bask in all of y’all’s light. @brielandu you are the sweetest soul I’ve ever met and you deserve the world. Patrick you are a gorgeous voice and soul and I hope everyone you meet feels that! @birdofpreycoach2 you are such a great guy and made me feel so comfortable during our scenes. @lozerlia you are so so funny and played Joanne with such depth and beauty. @getting_down_in_your_town you are mark and you made that role yours with your beautiful voice and amazing acting. @thee_noah_underhill you made Benny so addictive to watch when he is such a hard character to pull of! And @rachel.farage you were so incredible as Maureen and over the moon was a broadway level performance!

And I got to make this amazing backdrop and I have never felt so fulfilled. This will live on as one of my favorite artworks.

Also every single person in the ensemble carried this show on their incredible shoulders! I can’t start with each individual because I’d never stop! You guys are so amazing and I love you all!

SELL US YOUR SOUL! And never pay RENT.
Third time’s lucky, I finally got to do this show and ‘clear my conscious,’ after some not-so-great auditions. This show was such a blessing to be a part of. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. So thanks to the crew, the production team, and fellow cast members for welcoming me into this journey

My Maureen🌙
This lady has pushed me to grow in ways I never thought possible. I couldn’t have asked for a better girl or a better cast to have jumped over the moon with. 💙✨🐅🐮💋

I don’t even know what to say about this show. This show was a struggle for me because it meant oh so much to me. The history of this show is so important and so are the topics handled thinks like addiction and mental health. I cannot begin express my gratitude towards these amazing people who did it with me. To express my gratitude I got the opportunity to share this brilliant story!

I met so many amazing people and got so much closer with people I already knew and loved! Big thank you to Jackson and Chrissy because they got me through this show and I genuinely could not have asked for more amazing best friends on and off the stage!

To people living with living with living.

Another closing of another show, but this one feels a lot different. There was a lot of weight to carry with this performance, and I truly felt like I put my very soul into this production. I’m so grateful to everybody I got to work with, all of the new friends I got to make, all of the old ones I got to keep. I look forward to the day where we get to share the stage again, but maybe after a very long nap lol.

Rent was such an important show for me to do as a queer person. This was history. This was the reality for so many who came before me, and it was important to me that I did them justice and honored them as properly as I could. Every night I picked the name of a person with AIDS who was a vital part of the movement and portrayed them during Life Support. Those names are as follows:

Robert Rayford, 16. Died in 1969. Likely the first confirmed case of HIV.

Bobbi Campbell, 32. Died in 1984. An American AIDS activist and one of the first people to publicly come out as someone with AIDS

Ryan White, 18. Died in 1990. The Ryan White Care Act was the largest federally funded law that met the unmet needs of people infected with HIV

Michael Callen, 38. Died in 1993. He worked with his doctors to publish articles raising awareness about risky sexual behaviors

Timothy Ray Brown, 54. Died in 2020. The first person to be considered cured of HIV

Matt O’Grady, diagnosed in 1987. Johnathan Larson’s childhood best friend who was diagnosed with AIDS and helped inspire Larson’s art, most notably Tick Tick…Boom! He is still alive today.

Thank you again, viva la vie boheme ♥️

Things I didn’t take for granted during this show:

• Being able to direct this show. It was an honor and I’m very thankful for the opportunity.
• Having such a wonderful support system. My production team was legitimately a dream team. This show would’ve been impossible without them.
• Getting to work with such wonderful people. From old friends that I haven’t got to work with in a while, to new friends who I hope I get to remain in orbit with. You all changed my life. Thank you.
• Seeing my name next to Jonathan Larson’s. The directors note is next to the author’s bio in the program. First time I saw it I legitimately cried. I’ve been a huge fan of his for years, and that was a dream come true.
• Producing a loudly gay show for the theatre I grew up in, and in an area that doesn’t get that kind of representation often. I remember the first time I saw the show, it was the first time I saw gay characters be not just supporting or comedic relief characters, but leads, and have their complicated and heartbreaking stories of love and loss be told. It changed me then, and it’s changed me again.
• That each day at rehearsal and out of the theatre, was a day I could grow and learn. This was my first directing gig post graduation. It was my first time directing a production of this scale (size and popularity). And it wasn’t always perfect, and I stumbled. But with the grace and empathy of my cast, crew and production team, we created a show that I am immensely proud of.

Thank you to my cast and production team. I love you more than you know. ❤️
Thank you to my crew. You guys steal my heart every night. 💛
Thank you to Jonathan Larson. I wish you knew how much this show meant to others. 💚
Thank you to those who came to support the show. Live theatre is a gift. I’m glad we got to share it together. 💙

And thank you to my family and friends who have always supported me. This past year has been a dumpster fire that’s been smashed and thrown into a black hole at times. But during this process I truly got to forget some of my problems, and enjoy being around the people I love, doing what I love. Thank you. 🫶🏻

(Sorry I couldn’t tag everyone 💔 Enjoy the 🌈 )
