How many of these have you read?

These books were what I read (or listened to on audiobook) in August. It was so fun reading books from new-to-me authors! And of course, to read more books from some of my favorite authors.

For readers looking for an urban fantasy full of angels & demons. 🪽😇

✨Cursed✨ by @lrwlee_author

I chose to read it because I was intrigued by the book being a retelling of the Book of Revelations.

I’ve only read the first book so far - but the series has really high reviews, with lots of praise for how the last book brought everything together and had a powerful message.

Parts I really liked: 😊

- When God talked to Gladriel, warning her that the seed of vengeance had been planted in her heart and not to let it grow, telling her vengeance was his. 💕

- Seeing angels protect and help humans. That gave me the warm fuzzies! 🥰

- Two of the parts where two prophecies were fulfilled miraculously were pretty mind-blowing to read. 🤯🤩

I definitely need to reread Revelations asap. 📖

#sweetcleanreads #urbanfantasy #retellingofthebookofrevelations

Expect:
Dual POV 1st person - written in kind of a comedic style - so it doesn’t feel as heavy or dark.

⚠️Content:

- Fallen angels’ bottom set of wings are cut off. I definitely cried at that part. 😭

- Demons (they are animal-like beasts, shown possessing humans by latching onto them and influencing their thoughts, actions, and feelings).

- Fallen angels who torment humans, sometimes teaming up with demons

- Demons are seen at a seance and an exorcism gone wrong

- Mention of how things like seances, tarot cards, and ouija boards invite demons

- Death and destruction of humans through natural disasters and other catastrophes

Parts I have questions about:

- The fact that Fallen angels were sent to a school and forced to fight against God by harming humans & working with demons. Shouldn’t there be a redemption path? Especially for the angels that still want to serve God and definitely still see Lucifer as the enemy?

- The angels not knowing some of the prophecies is not a concept I’ve ever considered - but I’m guessing there is a reason for it down the road and it definitely adds to the mystery.

✨ Hopefully, these questions would be answered/resolved in the rest of the series. 😆

🌈Post Description: What happens when the very rules designed to protect you become the ultimate test of your heart? 💔✨ If you’re a fan of slow-burn romance and epic supernatural battles, you need to add this book to your TBR immediately.
I recently dived into *Cursed* by L.R.W. Lee, the first book in the Morningstar Academy series, and I am completely swept away! The story follows Gladriel, a fierce cherub warrior who has spent centuries protecting humanity from demons. But when a devastating attack shifts the war between Heaven and Hell, she finds herself hunted by dark forces—all while fighting an undeniable, forbidden pull toward her commanding officer, Kessien.
What makes this book so incredibly unique is how it blends intense angelic lore and supernatural warfare with a clean, deeply emotional Christian fantasy retelling of Revelations. The writing style is vivid and fast-paced, making you feel the weight of every celestial blow and the quiet, aching tension of the slow-burn romance. Watching Gladriel wrestle with duty, loyalty, and her own vulnerability made my heart ache in the best way possible.
If I had to nitpick, the pacing in the middle slowed down slightly as the academy lore was being established, but the high-stakes action and emotional depth more than made up for it. It is a stunning, beautifully written start to a series.
Rating: 5/5 ⭐
If you want a swoony, action-packed fantasy with deep stakes, do not skip this one!

A retelling of the book of Revelations.

✨Cursed✨ by @lrwlee Book 1 of the Morningstar Academy.

Book overview
Can forbidden love survive a celestial war?

Heaven has rules. Gladriel was never very good at following them.

A fierce cherub warrior, Gladriel swore to protect humanity from demons hidden within the modern world and she’s spent centuries fighting the Enemy from the shadows.

But when a catastrophic attack reveals a terrifying shift in the war between Heaven and Hell, she finds herself hunted by forces darker than anything she has faced before.

As the danger escalates, so does the undeniable pull toward her commanding officer, Kessien, a battle-hardened angel whose presence threatens the walls she’s spent lifetimes building. Duty and longing collide as forbidden feelings ignite in the middle of a celestial war that could change everything.

Blending epic fantasy, angelic lore, supernatural warfare, and clean, swoony, slow-burn romance, Cursed, a Christian retelling of the book of Revelations, delivers a gripping adventure filled with immortal warriors, hidden demons, and high-stakes emotion.

Fans of fantasy academy romance and emotionally charged epic fantasy will be swept into a richly imagined world where loyalty is tested, love is dangerous, and even Heaven’s warriors can fall.

I just finished reading "Cursed" by @lrwlee . This modern angels and demons story is an adventure for sure. We get to explore the Grey area between what is right and wrong and the consequences of our choices. I will give this book 4.5 🌟. Will be adding the rest of the completed series to my tbr. #lrwleeauthor #cursednovel #angelsandemons #morningstaracademy #neverendingtbr #kindlecolorsoft

Gladriel, an angel warrior, is fighting off demons and saving humans one call at a time…until she’s not.
Going against her Almighty’s word, she lands herself in 2nd heaven as a fallen angel where she is forced to become everything she has ever been against.
But the prophecy is just beginning…

This story had great character development, and I loved the world building! This is a great YA Fantasy series. It started off a little slow for me but it definitely picked up. You can tell by the ending of this book that this is just the beginning of something good! Can’t wait to start book 2!
