Internet friends - I told you how this all came together you would t believe me. As someone who believed struggle and hard work bring the rewards it is a revelation to put something together so serendipitously with ease and joy. This is going to be so cute!!!

Mentalcut [ @mentalcut ] (@lua_preta_sound)

DJ and producer, co-founder of the duo Lua Preta. Blends contemporary electronic music with sounds from the global south — from kuduro and baile funk to gqom and dembow. With Lua Preta, he has performed across Europe and USA, playing both clubs and festivals. Their music has been released on labels such as Man Recordings, Good Enuff and Club Djembe, while Mentalcut’s tracks and remixes have been featured on BBC Radio 1, NTS, Keep Hush, Boiler Room and Rinse FM. His sets and productions balance raw club energy, fresh influences from Africa and South America, and a modern cross-cultural approach to sound.

“I was playing kwaito in the early 2010s and gqom feels like a continuation of my fascination with that music. Fun fact: “Ta Bater” by Lua Preta was the first gqom track in Poland and the first one in portuguese, back in 2018.”
