Dream garage, dream house 🌴

It’s not just the concrete garage that makes architect Matthew Segal (@mr_segal)’s latest project in California sing but the simplicity. Channeling mid-century style in its restrained materials, the Arista Residence - in the hills just outside of San Diego - uses a concrete and dark wood palette create a remarkable sense of warmth in the vast open plan interior, designed with equally large sliding glass windows to take advantage of the SoCal climate and indoor-outdoor living.

The Agency Journal Featuring ✨ Casa De La Vista ✨

This rare, Spanish Colonial-Revival estate is one of La Jolla’s few remaining gems from the 1920s — a time when homes were built to last. Thick plaster walls, hand-crafted woodwork, and terracotta roof tiles were chosen not just for beauty, but for durability. The arched doorways and wrought-iron accents showcase an era of artistry that is rarely replicated today.

Nearly 100 years later, the craftsmanship still shines, proving why these historic properties continue to stand tall as coveted treasures in California’s coastal landscape.

In this La Jolla private residential project, every room flows effortlessly within Sabastian Mariscal’s original architectural vision. We spent extra time on these custom vanities, incorporating hidden storage to maintain the clean, minimalist feel that echoes the rest of the home.
