It’s Sunday in San Diego and this is what the long way home looks like.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you my Local San Diego Guide.

People move to San Diego for the abundant sunshine, the year-round mild weather, the outdoor lifestyle and the iconic beaches. But they stay for…

• Grabbing tacos in Pacific Beach from your favorite taco shop on the way home from a beach day at Law Street.
@oscarsmex @nicosfishmarket @tacosurfpb

• Stopping in for bagels at @popupbagels and walking to the La Jolla farmers market on Sunday mornings. @lajollaopenairemarket

• Walking into @lucebarandkitchen and seeing multiple friends and neighbors, the local gathering spot in Bay Park.

• Evening stops at Calumet Park for golden hour, where the locals know the most spectacular skies actually happen a few minutes after sunset.

• Your neighbors, and their dogs, out on evening walks, actually stopping to waive and say hi.

Whether you dream of a beach bungalow walkable to the ocean or a bigger home perched on the hill with panoramic ocean views, San Diego has the right neighborhood for you.

If you’re moving to San Diego, this is the part worth planning your life around.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you my Local San Diego Guide.

San Diego, CA 92110

i gave this an 8.0 on beli! swipe to see more about my experience + what i got ➡️

the exterior!

the menu!

i ordered the tuna crab melt! this was super delicious and hit the spot despite having had a heavy lunch 😮‍💨 the sourdough complemented the tuna, crab, and aged white cheddar super well and wasn’t too tough (my mouth wasn’t all cut up afterwards 🙏). the sauce that came with the fries was also bombbb - a perfect balance of savory, fatty, and acidic 🤤

close up!

we also ordered the pisano pizza! this pizza is topped with italian sausage, portobello mushroom, caramelized onion, roasted red peppers, parmesan, red sauce, and mozzarella 😋 to be honest though, this pizza looked and sounded better than it tasted to me… it fell apart instantly, and while the flavor was not bad, there was nothing that stood out about this. ig i just had high expectations lol

but yeah look at thattttt

It’s August. Corn season—that hallowed dental flossian time—is upon us. Peak summer means the fruits from local farms are downright NC-17. It’s also hot-adjacent, so we search out top-notch sashimi and interesting fruit punches. But because we’re contrarians, we also find ourselves tucking into a warm lobster roll in North Park. These are the best things our editors found this month—things we’d recommend to friends who didn’t owe us money. Link in bio to read more about each pick.

🍴 Turon from Valerio’s 1979.
Valerio’s 1979 is a family story. It’s on the third generation of Valerios, and the new blood is reviving the name and place with Filipino comfort food. The turon, a deep-fried treat with caramelized sugar, is a star.

🍴 Warmed Lobster Roll from Pete’s Seafood and Sandwich.
“If my dad were to rank his favorite things,” writes San Diego Mag's content coordinator Lili Kim, “I think I’d make the podium, but there’s no way I’m outperforming this lobster roll.” 5 ounces of Maine lobster are smothered in warm butter, tucked into a grilled roll, and served with a simple coleslaw and basic fries (no need to overshadow the star).

🍴 Sesame-Torched Albacore from Glass Box.
Chef Ethan Yang shows off his skills with this albacore: it’s lightly cured in soy, mirin, and toasted sesame oil, flame-torched to caramelize, and finished with smoked shoyu, chive oil, shiso oil, house-pickled sweet peppers, and crispy rice pearls.

🍴 Cantaloupe Mochi from Kimochi.
The former pastry chef at two of the country’s top restaurants (Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York, n/naka in LA) is making fresh, fruit-filled mochi in San Diego. Gemma Matsuyama Yamada fills her creations with peak-season fruits like strawberries, stone fruit, and cantaloupe. Get the latter; it's otherworldly.

🍴 Tiny Victories Sparkling Wine from Sipwell Wine Co.
Tiny Victories is a Champagne-style sparkling white in a 250ml can (a glass and a half—the correct amount), fermented with true Champagne yeast. Crisp apple, a little citrus, that biscuity thing good bubbles do, zero sugar.

Link in bio for more on our recent editors’ picks.

How can my student write a college admissions essay that stands out?

College admission committees accept students based on 10+ factors – GPA, SAT scores, extracurricular, activities, internships, community outreach…and guess what?! Yup, essays!

Essays give students a voice that an SAT score lacks. Sharing your quirks, big dreams, leadership, career goals and more…essays are really one of my most favorite parts about the college admissions process. It can be really fun!

Join us on for this summer’s best free College Admissions Essay Secrets Workshop on Thursday July 9th at 6 pm.

Learn about the personal statement, UC personal insight questions, PIQs, & and feel free to bring a draft or even just your parents and a laptop. ;) Workshop locked in!

Sign up now. Event details are on Eventbrite – “College admissions essay secrets workshop.” Link is in bio.

‼️Please arrive at at least 30 minutes early to save your seat.

Your host: Hiiii, nice to meet you. My name is Eva Goetze – my students call me Ms. G. I love working with teens and would be happy to help your 13 to 17-year-old crush their academic and career goals.

Can’t wait to hear from you!

Hugs,

Ms. G.

Some people build successful restaurants. Others build communities. For nearly five decades, Tony D’Amato did both. As the founder of Bay Park’s Baci Ristorante and later Luce Bar & Kitchen, Tony welcomed generations of San Diegans with genuine warmth, kindness and old-world hospitality. To so many, a visit to Baci wasn’t just dinner - it was being greeted by Tony at the door, sharing stories, celebrating milestones, and feeling like family. After speaking with Tony’s family and those who knew him best, we wanted to share the story of the remarkable life he lived, the legacy he leaves behind, and the lasting impact he had on San Diego’s dining community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Maria, Salvatore, Philip, the entire D’Amato family, the Baci and Luce teams, and everyone mourning his loss. May he rest in peace.

Visit SanDiegoVille to read more about Tony’s life (link in bio).

Open house → six-minute walk → Aperol Spritz at @lucebarandkitchen

Wrapped up at 1425 Morenci Street and walked straight down to Luce Bar & Kitchen. That’s the Bay Park lifestyle in real time.

One of the things I love most about this home isn’t just what’s inside, it’s what’s around it. You can host an open house, lock the door, and be sitting with a view and a drink in your hand before you even check your notifications.

Bay Park hits different.
Water views. Local spots. Walkability. Community.

Vanessa and I ordered the Aperol Spritz. Then we went the margarita route. No wrong answers.

If you’re looking for a home where your weekends feel like this, watch the next slide.

Needless to say, there’s other great options like @harlandbeer, @bayparkfishco, and @birdrockcoffeeroasters to name a few local favorites.

1425 Morenci Street is live and ready for its new owner.

DM me “BAY PARK GUIDE” for details, price, a private showing, and/or pur neighborhood guide.
