The 44th annual @theojaistudioartists Open Studios Tour continues for 1 more day, Mon., Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For tickets and a map 🗺️ of artists’ studios, go to ojaistudioartists.org.

OVN asked a few OSA members what their favorite part of the tour is…

Kim Ann Smith, sculptor & painter, 2-year member: “Meeting the wonderful art collectors, so many stories … just getting to know what they love about it. … The (OSA) group is lovely. They’re so supportive.”

Yolanda Bergman, stained glass mosaics, 3.5-year member: “The people I meet, whether they buy or not, have give me so much inspiration, so many accolades, I get tears in my eyes … I’m never leaving (Ojai)!”

Rex Kochel, painter, 22-year member: “Meeting people that seem to appreciate what you’re doing and get inspired by some of your own work. You meet a lot of interesting people … that reinforce your sense of commitment and direction in your art.”

Lucinda Yates, painter and flame/torch work glass figures, 6-year member: “First of all, you meet new people and become friends with them … it’s about the people coming in. I love to talk to people and … explain the process. … It’s new to the community, this type of work. … I love introducing people to new concepts!”

Katie Van Horne, drawing, 21-year member: “The camaraderie and also the sense of continuity of seeing old pieces … things that I can see from my older work that I can now see in my newer work that I wasn’t aware of until I get it out again.”

✨ It truly takes a village to create an evening like Dining Wild, and we are so grateful to everyone who shared their time, talent, and generosity.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible hosts, Leslie Clark and Michael Price, who welcomed everyone into their beautiful home. Leslie prepared an extraordinary feast, while Michael treated guests to their signature paella.

Thank you to Lucinda Yates for her legendary Fatty Pants ice cream, Valerie Freeman for the beautiful sculpted clay horses adorning each table—created from clay dug right from her own backyard, Yolanda Bergman for keeping everyone’s glasses full as our wonderful bartender, Richard Morgan for expertly directing parking with a smile, and Bryan McCann for filling the evening with beautiful live jazz guitar.

Because of all of you, Dining Wild was more than a fundraiser—it was an unforgettable evening of art, community, generosity, and friendship. ❤️

There is a story in every painting. I finally met @lucindayatesart after years of knowing of her work from my friend Lisa @poochagram.
In 2022, Lisa sat for a 12 min portrait created by Lucinda.
I was drawn to Lucinda’s pieces as they are colorful and vibrant. Each piece tells a story, a story the viewer gets to create.
Before her paintings and portraits, Lucinda created pins that generated millions of dollars that gave back to homeless shelters and non-profits. The pins were a story of grit and the American dream; creativity leading to hope and success.
What I love about meeting artists in their space is they point things out that you don’t quite get to notice. I love that each of her paintings have dogs in them! My favorite is the piece with the sewing machine and the designer (my own observation and story of this piece). It was fun being able to create a narrative of a fashion designer, in his studio, with his dog and his assistant and a new model trying on a new collection with a photographer in town. The possibilities of this colorful world is endless.
Visit her site or check out her work in person! Explore her paintings and create your own world and narrative through her paintings.

Looking for a great Tunisian crochet shawlette pattern that is also timeless?💜

Well you are in luck because today @thescarvingartist in collaboration with Blue Sky Fibers released her #snowholdshawlette pattern.

The shawlette is worked in one piece and uses both Tunisian crochet and traditional crochet. It takes around 300 yards of DK or even Sport weight yarn - whichever you meet gauge with- a 6mm Tunisian hook with a cord and stopper.

I used Yarn Bee High Lights in Spa and Ivory. I love how the yarn has a glimmer to it.

I accessorized mine with an angel pin I purchased many years ago to support our local domestic violence shelter. The artist @lucindayatesart used to design and make angel pins for local charities. Now she does paintings which are phenomenal so also check out her page too for non-crochet art.

For the shawlette pattern head to @thescarvingartist page and grab your copy today and see all the different versions the testers made.
