A weekend in the Catskills was such an unexpected gift. <3
A few weeks ago, I decided to book a last-minute solo trip, but had absolutely zero idea where to go. I opened Airbnb, stretched the map across the entire East Coast, and spent hours (and I truly mean 14+ hours) scrolling through options until I came across a small inn in upstate New York where each room is inspired by a different classic author. I booked it without knowing much about the area, and had no idea how much I would come to love this place.
I met the kindest people, ate some amazing food (shoutout to Bushland Eating House, which now holds the title of my favorite restaurant in the world), spent hours browsing bookstores and antique shops, and simply just had time to breathe and slow down. I said it so many times while I was there, but this place really does have a sweet little magic to it.
In case I don’t say it enough: don’t let the absence of company keep you from exploring the world while you can :) (peep last slide for evidence of armstrong party of 1 always showing up!)

Taylor Foster, Model, Heaven On Main Street, Andes, NY
“Steady growth. clear boundaries. beauty that lasts.”

Matt Marchese, This and That, Pony’s Delhi NY
“This year I’ll continue to focus on improving my vintage shop, so it knows it’s identity. Likewise, I’ll try the same for Pony’s, my new food service project. As for resolutions, I’m focusing on survival and decency.”

KelliCain, Luck Dragon, Delhi, NY
“Commit to fun, look at stars more often.”

Aunt Jet, Hereditary Witch, Aunt Jet’s, Delhi, NY
“Celebrating the new year for me happens at Yule, the Winter Solstice. It’s the time when the long dark nights give way to longer days and the promise of the sun’s return. My goal for 2026 is to find a bigger location in Delhi for Aunt Jet’s so I can offer more classes and be of better service to this community that I love.”

What’s yours?

I’m on a long journey with this magewappa making process. Today was a great day bending sides and bands for a run of boxes. I owe a lot of people my gratitude for what I’ve learned so far, and to those who are helping guide the way ahead. First and foremost to @shibatayoshimasa and @shibata.yoshinobu for their generosity in teaching me in Odate, Japan, and their continued friendship and generosity, without which I’d still be feeling my way in the dark. To @finewoodworkingmagazine and @anissakaps for their belief that this process and product is worth sharing. To @luckdragon.space for encouraging new ideas and supporting it as a product. And to @ponpon.sensei and @ritmo_amma_mia who are fantastic teachers and giving me the knowledge and tools to learn Japanese, which will be the key to more adventures and research into the process and history of these humble and special objects.

最善を頑張ります! 本当にありがとうございます！

thank you @luckdragon.space for hosting me yesterday for Creative Patchwork: Mending and Embellishment! These seven beginner sewists learned four hand stitches and tried them out by patching and embellishing their own garments. Here’s to more of this in the future! Remember the most sustainable thing you own is what is already in your closet (but you can still buy fun upcycled pieces from me 😁)
