"whitney at the function 1"
15" x 18", multilayer reduction lino print
made Nov 3, 2025

this piece is my first time doing a reduction print, which is where you print multiple layers of colors by carving into the same block, then printing on top of the layer before. it was very difficult but i have definitely learned a lot from this first try, and I am excited to try it again sometime.
following my theme last year titled "experiences", this print depicts myself and several of my friends at a college party. by using a bright and nostalgic color palette my intention was to blend the unique experience/feelings of a party with the familiarity of a card game or cartoon.
for my Haddad Merit Scholar Exhibition I chose to display this piece alongside two misprints (slide 14). when first printing, getting these misprints was quite devastating because I only had so many copies to work with since i couldn't go back and print more due to the nature of a reduction print. then when discussing it with my peers in critique, a few people expressed that they felt the misprints complemented the piece by continuing the narrative. this is what I love about critique and the art community, because through them I was able to look passed my initial turmoil and see it for the happy accident it was. close ups of the misprints are titled "whitney at the function 2" (slide 16) and "whitney at the function 3" (slide 17).

ViVi designed by Alora Schoenberg. The top and arm sleeves were sewn by @lucy.ye_619 and I created the jeans. The outfit is comprised of completely recycled, denim and flannels. The jewelry and boots were owned by the model beforehand. There was alot of time put into this so I hope you all enjoy! If you like the jeans contact me for a custom pair! #sustainability#sustainable#fashiondesign #fashiondesigner
