POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This Cyber Security Awareness Month, we wanted to talk about how our clients often forward emails they have received from their hosting providers or relating to their websites, asking us whether they are genuine or not.

In many cases they are not, and it is always encouraging to see someone take a moment to question an email before clicking any links or taking action.

Do you know the signs to look for when deciding whether an email is genuine or not?

Why a website might not be needed

A tradesman recently asked if he needed a website for his business.

After talking through his situation the answer was no.

He's booked up with projects for around two years, has lots of regular customers who book him in advance and isn't looking to take on new customers.

In his case, the main reason for having a website would be because everyone else has one.

We don't think organisations should invest in a website just for the sake of having a website.

It should have a purpose and support organisational goals.

If you're unsure whether a website would work for your organisation, comment below or send us a message

This Cyber Security Awareness Month, ask yourself: Do I use the same password to access more than one website?

This could include your email accounts, online shopping accounts, work systems and any other online accounts.

If you do, set yourself the task of updating each password so they are unique, which makes it much harder for your accounts to be hacked.

It is often said that a picture paints a thousand words and this is true when it comes to websites as a picture or diagram usually works much better than a block of text.

During a recent client project we turned some text for a step by step process into a timeline diagram making the information much easier to digest. The client even commented that they had never thought of presenting the information like this and it definitely had to be part of the website.

Are you wondering whether some text you have on your website would be better presented visually? Comment below or send us a message if you are.

This Cyber Security Awareness Month, how do you keep track of your passwords?

Do you use a password book, save them in your browser, or use a digital password manager?

We use a digital password manager as it helps us securely store unique passwords for every website and system that we use.

What works best for you?

Myth: a website is just for selling products or services.

Fact: whilst this is partially true, websites can be used to educate people, provide information, support communities, share knowledge, showcase research or project findings.

The important thing is to ensure that your website is built for the correct purpose and works for the audience it serves.

Need help establishing the purpose of your organisation's website? Comment below or send us a message.

We were delighted to receive this lovely testimonial from Sope Wolffs from @equalbreath following the launch of their website.

“Lucy was fantastic to work with. She was incredibly responsive, patient and flexible throughout – even when I changed the colour scheme several times, kept tweaking the wording and sent plenty of back‑to‑back messages.

She was also so understanding about me working around a baby, which made the whole process feel really easy.

The end product is beautiful and I still can’t believe it all came together in less than two weeks. I’m so pleased with the website and would absolutely recommend her.”

Myth

You either need to design a website yourself or use a website designer.

Fact

There are some website designers such as ourselves who offer mentoring and guidance for people who want to build a website themselves.

There is no need to choose one option or the other.

Feel free to send us a message or comment below if you want to find out more about our mentoring and guidance website design services.

A website menu should not have more than five to six items in it so your users are not presented with too many choices.

If you have too many choices this increases confusion and can mean a user is not sure which item to click and so may leave your website altogether.

This does not mean that you create lots of sub menus underneath the main menu items as again this can lead to information overload for users.

Take some time to review your website menu and if it does have more than five to six items, consider which ones you can remove.
