Dystopian books do not believe in an easy little coming of age story. No. First you have to prove you deserve to survive, then the system assigns your soulmate, uses your gift against you or casually offers you up as a sacrifice.

This is for the dystopian readers who love death games, dangerous powers, forced matches, class systems, corrupt governments and romance with truly terrible timing.

Whether you want dystopian romance, YA dystopian books, dark dystopian fantasy or a book where the system is fully ruining someone’s life, there is a nightmare here for you.

Save this dystopian book list for your next read, share it with the friend who would absolutely choose “matched” despite all the red flags, and follow @onceuponatiktok for more dystopian book recommendations, hidden gems and emotionally damaging reading choices.

Which one are you picking: TESTED, ENTERTAINMENT, MATCHED, GIFTED, SACRIFICED or RANKED?

Apparently I’m in my dystopian Kindle era and this is the chaos currently open on it🖤

My current Kindle reads are giving rebellion, survival, vampires, a zombie apocalypse, future predicting AI, forced matches and forbidden romance. Basically: zero chance I’m reading anything peaceful anytime soon.

A few are eARCs, a few are dystopian romance books I’ve been dying to get to, and all of them are threatening to wreck my TBR in completely different ways.

Which one would you start first? Tell me what’s currently open on your Kindle, save this for your next dystopian read, and send it to the reader friend whose Kindle is just as feral. Follow for more dystopian romance, Kindle reads and ARC book recommendations.

⭐️ Another Awesome Dystopian ⭐️

@lucymilbaudauthor bringing us all the Dystopian and Slow burn feels with this gem! I am so thankful for the opportunity to ARC read this one! I will absolutely be adding it to my shelf and re-read list. It was just a refreshing read for me.

"The Edge of Harmony is an adult dystopian romance about a woman forced to attend a government-run retreat to find a man to have children with. Her plan to resist begins to unravel when her past resurfaces-and she starts falling for the one man she can never have.

Wanting him was never part of the plan. Choosing him could cost her everything."

My Dystopian Girls Survival Report 014 is here!

If you love dystopian books, dystopian romance, survival stories, rebellion, dangerous secrets and characters who make absolutely terrible decisions, we’re probably reading the same books.

This week’s reading update has been a good one!

Finished Beneath the Burning Sky by Ruby Valladares.

Currently reading Tempted by Ellysa Marin.

Listening to Storm Breaker by Nisha J. Tuli.

And next on my reading list is The Sixth Faction by Veronica Roth. I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on this one!

Meanwhile, my dystopian TBR is looking increasingly ambitious. When Eden Falls, Predestined, The Edge of Harmony, The Blood We Seek and Convergence are all sitting there waiting for their turn.

And that’s before we even get into the ARC reads, indie authors, street teams, upcoming book releases and new book mail. Apparently I think I have unlimited reading hours.

One of my favourite things about dystopian fiction is discovering books that deserve so much more attention. Whether it’s an underrated dystopian series, a new dystopian romance, a post-apocalyptic story or something with a little fantasy thrown in, I’m always looking for my next obsession.

And judging by my reading list, finding books is definitely not the problem.

Save this post for your next dystopian book recommendations or when you’re looking for something new to read.

Share it with your bookish friends who are forever adding books to their TBR.

Tell me: Have you read any of these? And which one should I be moving straight to the top of my reading list?

Follow @onceuponatiktok for weekly dystopian book recommendations, reading updates, underrated books, new releases and all the books making my TBR completely unmanageable.

eARC REVIEW | THE EDGE OF HARMONY by Lucy Milbaud ⭐️

Dystopian romance, but make it ✨luxurious✨.

I was invested in this story 100000%. The plot had me hooked, and every time I told myself “just one more chapter,” I was somehow still reading at midnight on a WORK NIGHT. 🫠

In this world, genome matches determine who is allowed to have children. With birth rates dangerously low, reproducing has become less of a personal choice and more of a societal duty to “save humanity.” And if you’re one of the unlucky unmatched citizens? You might just get selected in a random drawing to attend the Harmony Retreat, where you’ll be presented with three pre-approved genome matches to date, get to know, and ultimately choose from.

Sounds simple enough, right? WRONG. Because our FMC has history with one of her potential matches… and let’s just say it is not good history. 👀

There are definitely some The Handmaid’s Tale vibes woven into this dystopian world, but with a luxurious setting, a romance that had me INVESTED, and enough tension to keep me turning pages.

Give me found family, a slow burn, forbidden romance, and banter that makes me want to reach through the pages and shake these characters. Lucy Milbaud understood the assignment. 🙌🏻

If you love dystopian romance with high stakes, complicated history, and a plot that makes you say “okay, ONE MORE CHAPTER” until it’s suddenly tomorrow, add this one to your TBR!

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ARC. 💕

2026 is officially the year of dystopian books, and my TBR is already fighting for its life.

Divergent is back. Shatter Me gave us two new books. Sunrise on the Reaping is heading to cinemas. Silo returned to keep the dystopian TV girls suspicious of every staircase. And somehow Chaos Walking, Scythe and The Testaments all decided we were not emotionally overwhelmed enough.

Then there are the new 2026 dystopian releases already taking over my bookshop list: Beneath, Seek the Traitor’s Son, Broken Dove, Winterveil, The Shadows That Listen, Escape Me and more.

If you love dystopian romance, YA dystopian books, morally questionable governments and characters making the worst possible choices for our entertainment, this is your sign to save this post for your next TBR spiral.

Share it with the friend still emotionally trapped in Panem, like it if your TBR is already in crisis, and follow for dystopian book recommendations, dystopian romance and all the fictional government problems.

Which 2026 dystopian release has you the most feral?
