Being a musician today is a chaotic puzzle. Half the time, managing to play these gigs and festivals feels like pure chance, one day it’s canceled transport, the next it’s fires, or whatever logistical mess comes next.

To be honest, the industry is dropping the ball. Labels should be protecting and sustaining the musicians who actually create the art, but instead, we’re watching major labels pivot to automated A.I. Music overnight.

But we survive the grind because sometimes, against the odds, we get to step into a beautiful garden in Tuscany with Annega and play real, human sega soul music for people who just want to dance. That’s the only part that makes sense.

Deep below the surface, sperm whales hunt some of the ocean’s largest invertebrates - giant and colossal squid.

They dive over 1,000 m (3,300 ft) into the darkness, using echolocation clicks to track their prey. When they return, pale arms often hang from their jaws, proof of the battles taking place in the abyss.

For calves, these moments are more than a meal - they’re lessons in survival, watching their mothers handle the squid they’ll one day have to hunt themselves.

Есть мечты, о которых боишься даже думать — слишком масштабно, слишком нереально. А потом ты просто берёшь и делаешь шаг навстречу. 🔥

Shocking how much information I have for Giant squid in comparison to Ken’s Cuttlefish or the Starry Night Octopus 😭 and I could’ve written more!!

But alas I finally found the time to do another lil species carousel. This time for the giant squid! Which is only one species in total for the ENTIRE GLOBE! Absolutely bonkers.

I hope this one isnt too dense and you learn some new facts. Videos are a lil fun extra hehe

For the amount of squid eaten by sperm whales, the reason the source is like that is because Dr. Kat Bolstad revised the math in the Clarke 1980 paper because a fault in the math was identified. She updated it for current sperm whale population sizes as well! The original estimates from the paper are still accurate with the correct math, and actually are underestimated in comparison to the current population of sperm whales!

Sperm whales are the main predator of giant squid, diving hundreds of meters into complete darkness to hunt them. Encounters like this are rarely seen.

From the darkness of the deep, the mother rose slowly, her great body pulsing with effort, while the calf clung close to her side. The faint shimmer of the surface light caught on something twisting in her jaws-long pale arms, still trembling, a giant calamari dragged from the black abyss.

The calf pressed its head against the mother’s flank, curious, its small eye turning toward the strange, sprawling catch.
Around them, the other whales gathered, a circle of giants, each click and creak of their voices carrying through the water like an ancient council.

The mother released a cloud of ink the squid had left behind, now dissipating in ghostly ribbons. She let the prey dangle for a moment before tearing a piece free with a practiced shake of her head. The calf tried to imitate, nudging the slack arms of the squid, but only managed to tangle its mouth in the trailing suckers. The adults rumbled with what could only be described as laughter.

High above, a shaft of sunlight pierced the water, illuminating the drifting arms of the squid like banners in the deep. The feast had begun, but it was also a lesson-the calf’s first glimpse of the abyss’s hidden monsters, and of the power its mother carried up from the dark world below.
