My Host Family

I honestly don’t know if I can fully put into words how grateful I am for my host family. When I first came to the United States, I was nervous about living so far from home, a different country, a different culture, and not really knowing what to expect. But they made that transition so much easier than I ever could have imagined. From the very first day, they made me feel welcome, comfortable, and like I truly belonged there.

They didn’t just give me a place to stay—they gave me a second home. A place where I felt safe, accepted, and cared about, not as a guest, but as part of the family. They included me in their daily life, their routines, and their traditions, and made sure I never felt left out or alone.

They were there for me through every high and low. They celebrated my successes with me, even the small ones, and were proud of me in a way that really meant something. And when things were difficult or I was feeling homesick or stressed, they supported me without hesitation and helped me get through it. Just knowing they were there made everything feel easier.

They treated me like one of their own, and because of them, this year became so much more than just an exchange program or a year abroad. It became a year I will remember for the rest of my life.

Leaving them is one of the hardest parts of going home, and I don’t think that part will ever feel easy. I will miss them more than they will ever know, and I will always be grateful for everything they did for me, the memories we made, and the way they made me feel like I was part of something bigger than just a stay away from home.
