I first stumbled upon Karoline von Günderrode‘s story at age sixteen. I decided to turn her story into a play when I was twenty. Now, two years later, Tian is done. A week ago we played our final show.

Usually I am quick with words and yet writing this does not come easy. These past few weeks have felt like a dream. I have been met with enormous respect, adoration and gratitude by strangers, friends, professors in ways that are very new, and perhaps scary, to me. Tian showed me that maybe, somewhere within me, I do have a talent for doing history, for telling stories. I have never felt pride for anything I did - but Tian has brought me close.

Looking back at this process, I am simply filled with endless gratitude: Thank you Kayla for being by my side from the very beginning, and for dedicating so much love and time to this play. Thank you to my lovely, talented, bright actors for making my words come to life. Trusting you all was so easy. I thank each and everyone of you for the light you brought into every rehearsal, your curiosity and love for Karoline, and for your respect towards her, our language, and me. Thank you to all my crew, the designers and stage management team, without whom this show would have never been possible. For your time, effort, care and dedication I am very, very grateful.

A lot of thanking, I know, and yet there are not enough words for the pride I feel when I think of all of you. Thank you for helping me tell this story.

Ohne dich, wäre meine Welt ganz anders. Danke, dass es dich gab.
