Lifting weights isn’t enough.

Obviously we want our high school and college athletes to get stronger, but at some point they also have to learn how to use that strength fast.

That’s why in our power blocks at ISP, we’ll contrast our strength work with jumps, plyometrics, or med ball throws.

We’ll hit a heavier strength movement first, then follow it with something fast and explosive.

The idea is pretty simple: recruit those higher-threshold motor units under load, then give the athlete an opportunity to produce force quickly through a jump or throw.

We want athletes who can produce a lot of force, but we also want them to be able to produce it fast.

Getting stronger matters. But for athletes, it’s what you can do with that strength that matters most.

You’re wondering if coach is going to put you on varsity.

You’re worried about tryouts.

You’re worried about playing time.

You’re worried someone else is going to take your spot.

But while you’re thinking about whether coach thinks you’re good enough…

How much time are you actually spending becoming physically better?

If you’re only practicing your sport, you’re leaving a huge part of your development up to chance.

Getting faster takes training.

Getting stronger takes training.

Becoming more explosive takes training.

And those qualities aren’t built the week before tryouts.

They’re built through months of consistently developing your body 3–4 days a week.

You can’t control who coach puts on varsity.

But you can make it really hard for them to leave you off.

College coaches aren’t just recruiting talent. They’re recruiting athletes who are physically prepared to compete at the next level. High school athletes are competing against physically developed college athletes.

If you want to play college baseball, investing in your physical development matters.

Get stronger.
Move faster.
Jump higher.
Add lean mass.
Build the physical qualities that allow your baseball skills to show up at a higher level.

You can’t control who calls you, but you can control how prepared you are when the opportunity comes.

Invest in your development. Give yourself a better chance to get noticed.

Everybody throws a baseball. The difference isn’t in the motion, it’s in the work that happens when nobody’s watching. The athletes who become elite are the ones who stay consistent, attack the boring stuff, and show up every day. If you want to separate yourself from everyone else, train like it. Train at ISP.
