Still smiling after an unforgettable day at Castleton last Saturday!⁠
⁠
We were so excited to welcome the John Jackson Blues Festival to Castleton. It was especially wonderful to have the festival join us during our 30th anniversary year, when we are celebrating three decades of music, performance, and community at Castleton.⁠
⁠
Nearly 800 people passed through Castleton from 10:30 am to 8 pm, bringing an incredible energy to the estate. People of all ages and from all walks of life came together to dance, swing, listen, laugh, and enjoy a beautiful day of blues.⁠

Seeing the Castleton grounds filled with music, dancing, and so many smiling faces was truly special. We loved having the John Jackson Blues Festival here and are grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success!⁠

🍪 I know, the pun isn’t great but sometimes you just just gotta take the 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙠

💜 So here’s 10 fun facts about me! Tell me a fun fact or two about you in the comments!

1. I’ve baked my whole life but Stormy Acres Cookies was created in October 2020 when I needed a creative outlet during Covid! 🍪

2. I grew up in NJ (exit 91) also 20 minutes from your favorite fist pumping bennies, The Jersey Shore. Before moving to VA, I lived in NYC 🗽

3. While I loved living in the city, I’m a country girl at heart! I like space and privacy! 🤠

4. I’ll take a beach vacay over a cold one any day…also Beach>Lake 🏝

5. While I don’t drink often, I’m a huge wine lover, specifically Bordeaux 🍷

6. I have an amazing husbands, Joe, who is kicking Cystic Fibrosis’ 🍑 daily 💜

7. I’m a huge animal lover 🦮🐈🐓 Joe and I hope to have alpacas & goats at some point

8. I’m not really into movies but I’ll binge a good tv series daily📺

9. I have a crazy small family, like 12 people total! One of them is my sister who is 10 years younger ! And the rest of my family all still lives in NJ 👯‍♀️

10. And lastly I hope to open a brick & mortar at some point that is primarily a retail spot for all our other local bakers but also where I can do my classes and make my cookies! 💭

Hello! 👋 I’m Cara, the owner of Abracadabra Massage & Wellness. I wanted to say thank you for all of the love and support. We had an epic growth spurt in 2021, and YOU made that possible! I’d also like to do an introductory post, but realized I have a lot to share and it’s probably best to break this up into several posts.

𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒕 - 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕 1

I started Abracadabra Massage & Wellness as I was finishing massage school back in 2009. I had a studio setup in the spare room of my apartment. It was pretty perfect, with a separate entrance and it’s own bathroom. I briefly worked out of that space and then decided to rent the room out for extra cash. This is when Abracadabra became a mobile massage business. I made this my primary focus. Our tagline was:

𝑾𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖! 𝑷𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒇 𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒐𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒑.

The business remained mobile for several years. During this time I worked as a massage therapist for other companies, while also waiting tables. On a personal level, I was going through tremendous difficulty during this period of time and decided to get clean and sober (I say that because your girl doesn’t smoke weed, do drugs OR drink alcohol). I struggled with addiction from the age of 16 to 33, finally surrendering in 2011. Getting sober is good for business. I began devoutly studying herbalism in 2011, taking foundational courses, herbal lab/apothecary classes, clinics- you name it, I signed up for it. The cornerstone of my education as an herbalist is Green Comfort School of Herbal Medicine. I accepted an apprenticeship there, did multiple clinical trainings, and went on to be the apothecary assistant. This led me to work for several small skincare companies, while continuing to practice massage therapy on the side. During this time I also dove head first into beginning to learn Reiki with Eka at DreamWeaving Way. @green.comfort @dreamweavingway
