Guys. My book Neon Pastoral is officially in the permanent Library of Congress catalog. Like, the real one. The one researchers use. Forever and ever Amen (LCCN 2025939449).
This surreal news was delivered last week while I sat on a plastic chair reading Children in Tactical Gear at the lip of Lake Placid. It was chilly, and I was in a ski hat and shorts because I no longer have winter clothes. A friend dinged my phone to tell me she randomly looked me up and found my name, all of its vowels sprawled across the page in a government font.
At first: excitement. Next: wait, isn’t every book cataloged in there? Then: the learning curve. Navigating the library system is as you would expect but I was able to decider that while all books can register a copyright, getting into the main research catalog involves a massive, selective sorting process where most books get turned away. It’s wild to me that all this was going on while I was just duh-ing around New York looking for yard sales. That the selection officers decided to keep this weird little book of poetry, forever, is ungraspable.
Once I figured out that it was, in fact, a big deal, I texted my dad to tell him the news. He called me back immediately, yelling about how “getting a permanent spot in the Library of Congress is worth a real phone call!”
And now I will remember that chilly upstate New York morning, my bag of Turkish gummy worms, my plastic chair, and the text I never in a million years thought I would read.
Thank you to everyone who has read, supported, and loved these poems! I am completely shocked, vastly grateful, and fully prepared for my ghost to haunt the Jefferson Building reading room one day.
*Yes, I know the Ghostbusters library scene was supposed to be at the New York Public Library but I couldn’t miss the opportunity.

Troubles fully arointed through permanent freeze tag, church bell 7am wake-up calls, erotic poetry’s dubious definition, and ancestral whispers from Down Neck, NJ to France, California, and the moon last night at Overhear with Matthew Rohrer, Hermine Meinhard, Greg Masters and Parker Menzimer. We ran out of seats, but most of us were floating in mid air by the end of the night. Overhear is a cross generational reading Series where one poet must live within walking distance of the venue, which is The Urbane Arts Club, a old mansion somewhere in Brooklyn. #poetryreading #overhear

Over here at Overhear: Greg Masters, Hermine Meinhard, Matthew Rohrer, and Parker Menzimer read poetry in a Brooklyn mansion. Their presence and yours will add to The Urbane Arts Club’s many lives: originally a private home to two eccentric 19th c artists, and then a library, a synagogue, a speakeasy with a smugglers tunnel from the basement, the Brooklyn Democratic HQ,, and several strange social clubs, before becoming the arts nexus it is today. See you Thursday 5/14 at 7!. #poetry#poetryreading #soeakeasy #smugglers #library
