⁣ Now on view at the Portland State University Schnitzer School of Art, open through December 5: Patricia Vázquez Gómez’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 2.⁣ ⁣ Patricia Vázquez Gómez (Portland) is an artist and educator exploring the social functions of art through printmaking, video, and community-based projects. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, she debuted a multi-channel sound installation in the gallery at PSU’s Schnitzer School of Art that expands on her long-term collaboration with Mayan families in Northeast Portland. The work centers on their evolving relationship with maayat’aan, an Indigenous language from Yucatán, Mexico, and musicians’ responses to its melodic spoken intonation. Accompanied by an artist’s book modeled on a Mayan codex and new large-scale drawings, the project investigates the vital role of art in preserving cultural knowledge, sustaining Indigenous languages, and making visible the living histories carried by diaspora communities.⁣ ⁣ 📍 Portland State University Schnitzer School of Art,⁣ 1981 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97201 ⁣ On view August 27 - December 5⁣ Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 12:00 - 5:00 PM⁣ Thursday: 2:00 - 7:00 PM⁣ ⁣ 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘛𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘕𝘰𝘸 is open across 16 venues citywide, with 28 artists and 17 new commissions. Highlights from keyon gaskin’s performance in sidony o’neal’s 𝘛𝘈𝘕𝘗 𝘋’Æ𝘙/𝘚𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘌 + 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘎𝘠, which was on view Aug 27 - Oct 4 at Barn Radio. sidony o’neal (Portland) is a conceptual artist and writer whose practice uses ideas from mathematics, computing, and industrial fabrication to examine how systems of knowledge become material. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, o’neal presented a new iteration of their 𝘛𝘈𝘕𝘗 𝘋’Æ𝘙/𝘚𝘗𝘓𝘐𝘕𝘌 + 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘎𝘠 installation at Black-led music club Barn Radio, using perforated Tyvek to create an architectural surround for an ambient sound piece composed by Adee Roberson, DJ sets, and movement work by keyon gaskin. Based on the molecular structure of an insecticide associated with the 1940 Natchez Rhythm Club fire, the perforated design eulogized histories of racialized harm and transformed them into space for healing. #keyongaskin 📍 Barn Radio 215 SW 1st Ave Portland, OR 97204 On view Aug 27 - Oct 4 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘛𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘕𝘰𝘸 across 16 venues citywide, with 28 artists and 17 new commissions. ⁣ Highlights from the opening reception and performance of Lynn Yarne's 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘈𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦 𝘚𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, on view through October 11 at the Povey Building.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Lynn Yarne is a Portland-based artist and educator whose animation and collage practice explores neighborhood memory and public pedagogy. For C45, Yarne presents 𝘗𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘈𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦 𝘚𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, an installation and series of social dance workshops that aim to pass down cultural traditions through joy rather than trauma. Working with elders, Yarne invites audiences to learn Japanese Obon and soul line dancing, accompanied by archival photos of historic joy. The project complicates local narratives and brings new audiences to a neighborhood that deeply shaped Portland's immigrant communities. A fourth- and fifth-generation Japanese and Chinese American from Portland, Yarne draws on mythology, messiness, and autoethnography, using visual remixing as a process of meaning-making. Sharing documentation from Meech Boakye’s 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘗𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺, on view through October 31 at Paragon Arts Gallery, Portland Community College Cascade.⁣ ⁣ Meech Boakye is a Portland-based interdisciplinary artist whose practice centers on collaboration with multispecies kin, including plants and fungi. For C45, Boakye presents 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘗𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 at the Paragon Gallery at PCC Cascade, a two-part installation that explores purity as a performance and considers how the body changes as it learns to be watched, recorded, touched, and transformed. A new video ranges from marble extraction in a mountain quarry to the artist being slimed in a backyard wildflower meadow, reframing the familiar children’s television trope of the “slime pour” as an experience of vulnerability, shame, and desire. In the adjoining gallery, touchable cast soap relief sculptures offer a form of aftercare, inviting viewers to consider how matter can hold memory and emotion. Sound and scent carry the installation from the locker room of an indoor pool to the garden, incorporating sensory traces that blur the boundaries between the bodily, the environmental, and the mediated.⁣ ⁣ 📍 705 N Killingsworth St⁣ Wed 12–5 PM ⁣ Thurs & Fri 12–7 PM ⁣ Sat 12–5 PM⁣ ⁣ Part of 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘛𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘕𝘰𝘸, Converge 45’s 2026 Triennial curated by @lumit

Sharing documentation from Marcus Fischer's 𝘞𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴, which took place on Sunday, August 30 at North View Gallery, Portland Community College Sylvania. Marcus Fischer (Portland) creates, collects, and transforms sound into immersive, layered compositions that take the form of environments and live performances. For the 2026 C45 Triennial, he debuts two new projects: 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘪𝘭, a video and audio tape loop installation at PSU's Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design, and, in a rock garden on the PCC Sylvania campus, the site specific performance 𝘞𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴. Created this year at Headlands Center for the Arts, 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘪𝘭 meditates on grief, memory, and the desire to remain in dialogue with the dead. Two vintage tape recorders share a single loop of a slowed Swiss folk song, surrounding a reliquary of objects belonging to the artist's late father. A veiled, time-shifted projection of a rock formation in the Pacific ocean extends the work's reflection on loss as something revisited rather than resolved. In 𝘞𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴, Fischer manipulates audio tape looped between two columns and other devices, playing sounds connected to his personal history and creative community. Integrating specialized equipment from PCC's endangered Sonic Arts program, Fischer explores collective dreaming and the power of sound to connect people across distances. 𝘙𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘝𝘦𝘪𝘭 is on view through December 5 Portland State University's Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design @psu_artanddesign 📍 1981 SW Broadway Tues, Weds, Fri 12–5 PM | Thurs 2–7 PM 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦, 𝘛𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶, 𝘕𝘰𝘸 is open across 16 venues citywide, with 28 artists and 17 new commissions.
