DANCE ARTS IN CONTEXT - CU
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
“KINKOU” is a choreographic exploration of the tension between individuality and societal expectations, seen through the lens of women’s experiences. The piece follows four dancers navigating cycles of connection and disconnection, symbolizing the struggle to assert one’s identity while seeking belonging. Inspired by the dual meanings of the number four in Japanese culture, KINKOU reflects both the challenge of breaking free from societal pressure, and the need for reconnection. Drawing from the concept of mono no aware—the bittersweet beauty of impermanence—the piece explores how time shapes identity and relationships. Through dynamic movement, KINKOU delves into the cycles of struggle, healing, and growth, ultimately revealing the beauty found in embracing life’s constant changes and the pursuit of balance. Special Context: This piece was created as part of a project by @onmutefaa, where Jéssica Laís was invited to collaborate as an alumni of Fontys Academy of the Arts. The dancers include students from the first, second, and fourth years of the program, creating a vibrant intergenerational dynamic. KINKOU will premiere on 14th December at the Academy Theatre, presenting a unique opportunity to witness the intersection of professional artistry and emerging talent.
