This is how you do a duet. Nightshade and Daybreak compliment each other seamlessly and the characters @autumnwoods.author has written have left a long lasting impression on me that I will cherish forever. Pure perfection on every page!

“𝙈𝙮 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙢𝙮 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜.”

The flirty banter continues to be top tier and in its own league in Daybreak. Honestly, the dialogue both in person, and over text between Alex and Ophelia (and Alex’s draft emails... IYKYK!) had me blushing and giggling and then the next moment shedding a tear. Their inner monologues too!

“𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙮.” (𝙊𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙖)
“𝙄𝙛 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨, 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧.” (𝘼𝙡𝙚𝙭)

Their chemistry is undeniable. They feel like soulmates who fit together and complete each other in every way and the mental health representation gives a raw, honest look into the minds and real struggles that both Ophelia and Alex are facing. Autumn skips the fake fixes and delivers a story and characters so vivid and real it’s impossible to not be completely enamored by them all.

And OMG, Vinny and Collete feel like they’re my mates and I would be over the moon if we got a book about them in the future. Vinny is so freaking loveable, and I loved how he looked out for Phewlz and always is there for Alex and his sisters. Belladonna was a real MVP too.

Alex slid into the top book boyfriends list in Nightshade, but after Daybreak, he’s officially slid into my top book husband’s list! Excuse me, the way he selflessly looks after his family and those he loves 🥹! And the way he held onto the green Range Rover, his little reading glasses and THE ART STUDIO! IYKYK, this (along with pretty much the entirety of this book) is now living rent free in my head!

Both Nightshade and Daybreak are absolutely flawless start to finish. I’m so sad that it’s over and that Alex and Ophelia’s story has come to an end but it really was a satisfying conclusion... I’ll definitely be holding on to “midnight, a hundred years from now!”

Sliding in on the last day of the month, let’s talk about EDS. There are 13 types of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, but at its core it is a group of genetic disorders that target the body’s connective tissues (skin, tendons & ligaments, organ tissue, etc). One of the most common symptoms is frequent joint dislocations or partial dislocations (subluxation).

Reading Violet’s experience as a woman with EDS in a cutthroat war college, where the dragons will kill you if your fellow cadets don’t get to you first, was empowering and validating as the reader.

We get to see firsthand how her illness affects her every day. We watch as she dislocates her shoulder to get out of a hold. How she clings to consciousness through sheer will when she starts to faint because of dysautonomia. How she employs wraps for extra stability around her joints. How she can go to a mender to heal her injuries and keep going (if only!). How she can become as strong as she possibly can, but still cannot keep her seat on her dragon because her connective tissues will yield.

I cried. I cried within the first few chapters because I was reading my daily problems in a fantasy setting. I cried because someone else was thinking ahead in the same ways I had to, considering what my body could or could not handle that day. I cried because this imperfect and lovable character still deserved help, accommodations, power, love, and honor.

Regardless of any other quarrels I or any other readers may have with this series, this is important. Representation is important. Feeling seen is important. Seeing someone not get better but just keep going through is important.

My fellow zebras, I see you. I am with you. We are infinite.
