5 things that we’ve learned don’t work over the years⬇️

1. Every player is different. Not one should be coached the same. If you’re in a place they’re teaching every kid the same way… RUN. Every kid is different. Different body types, different motor preferences, different personalities, different strengths & weaknesses.

The quote we live by : “if you never teach a player to swing down you’ll never get to coach the next Barry Bonds. If you never teach a kid to swing up you’ll never get to coach the next Aaron Judge.”

To us that means it what the player needs. Not what we think is right.

2. Your body is your train tracks, the barrel is the train. If the body runs left (for a right handed hitter) the barrel is going to follow. The ability for players to learn how to keep their body & energy through the middle of the field will dictate their ability not only to hit. But be able to have adjustability on off speed pitches out front.

3. Angles & Posture determine ball flight. If learn how to set & maintain angles you will save yourself so much headache.

4. The engine of the swing is NOT the lower half. We had this the most wrong. Taught back hip load/fire to everyone. We sucked. Every hitter we had struggled - we thought they just hadn’t figured it out. When it reality we hadn’t figured out the truth. WE DIDNT KNOW WHAY WE WERE TALKING ABOUT.

When you kick a soccer ball do you use your upper or lower half? Most would say lower half because the foot is kicking the ball. Then why do we teach hitting the baseball as a lower half movement when the barrel is what is hitting the ball?

Side note : in kicking a soccer ball you use your upper half, it just happens naturally when trying to produce force in a specific direction. It’s the same in hitting just flipped. This is a lot to unpack so if you have questions ask. But this is the most impactful adjustment we have made. Both upper & lower half are equally important but how it gets taught is what messes everyone up.

5. Translation is key. The goal is not to be good in the cage. It’s to be good when you step in the box & it’s game time. If the moves you have don’t translate to the game you have problems.
