Inspired by the will-o’-the-wisp (mysterious lights said to lure travelers from familiar paths into the unknown), Foolish Fires by Margaret Jenkins Dance Company explores the delicate relationship between light and darkness.

Costume Designer Mary Domenico found inspiration in the transitional tones that bring light into dark, noticing the delightful unpredictability of her materials.

“To bring these colors to life, I turned to ice dyeing, a process that requires a certain willingness to surrender control. You can choose your colors, guide their placement, and imagine the outcome, but ultimately, the ice and pigments have a mind of their own.

There’s something equally terrifying and exhilarating about that uncertainty. You have to trust the process, embrace the unexpected, and find beauty in what unfolds. And perhaps that’s what I love most about it.”

See Foolish Fires this weekend (Oct. 15th & 16th) at Joe Goode Annex in San Francisco. For more information, visit @margaretjenkinsdanceco

Lu’s SADC story started back in 2023, when they first started taking classes with us while attending Saint Mary’s College. 🤍

Since then, they’ve danced in our studios, taught classes, and now work with us as our Administrative Associate!

It’s pretty special to watch someone go from taking a class in our studios to becoming such an important part of the community that makes SADC what it is. We’re so happy Lu is here, in all the ways. <3

Come get to know Lu and the many ways they’re part of SADC!
