Artist speak a language that the world gets to learn from. We are often times trying to communicate what the world is making us feel. That expression is a gift. Don’t take it for granted.

My aunt shared with me a question that was asked recently “What keeps you moving forward, Jo?”

To which she responded
“My kids”

Tattooing my aunt was a full circle moment for me. She’s supported my hustle since I was young, from doing her hair as a kid to now tattooing her as an adult. Her unwavering belief in me and her strength has always inspired me. I’ll never forget just how much I looked up to & admired her, she set an example of standing in your power and never settling for less.
I always thought she was soooooo cool (still is)
This tattoo is a testament to our journey together, & it’s of my little cousins names 🥺😭
I’m deeply grateful for her constant support and the chance to honor her & them in this way.

Thank you Tia!

I had the honor of commemorating Chelsea’s grandfather yesterday (who is still very much alive) When we first spoke about this piece, I instantly fell in love with the story and ideas she shared. She recounted how her grandfather would sneak her and her sibling out to watch the cockfights in their hometown, moments to share with loved ones and the community. She shared a reference photo and elements like the mahjong tile that she wanted to incorporate, and into the wormhole I went. The conception of this piece was truly beautiful. I approached it a bit differently, as I’ve been trying to implement more pencil-to-paper drawing in my life as a continued practice. The iPad is such a luxury to have as a tool, and I did end up using it for the stenciling part of this piece.

Anyhow, back to our story. I shared my final piece with Chelsea, and she gave me the go-ahead. Our schedules finally aligned, and this was the final piece.

I’ve been learning so much as I get into more medium to large detailed pieces. Diving into more of the mechanical and technical application, taking moments to step back and sit with the piece, letting the skin rest, and longer work times have led me to understand how to better accommodate clients.

My heart is so full. I appreciate everyone who’s taken a chance with me on this journey. Y’all have shown me the utmost love, trust, and support, and it’s literally only the beginning. 😩🤯🫠

My real day 1s 🤞🏽🫶🏽

Thank you for your trust Chelsea 🀄️

Unalome for Tiara 🪷🌙
•••
An unalome is a spiritual symbol representing the journey to enlightenment. The spiral and straight lines symbolize life’s twists, turns, and the path to inner peace amid chaos. The lotus is a symbol of purity and enlightenment in various cultures, especially in Buddhism. It grows in muddy water but emerges clean, symbolizing spiritual awakening and the journey to enlightenment despite life’s challenges. The crescent moon often symbolizes transition, change, and the passage of time. In various cultures, it can also have associations with femininity, intuition, and the cyclical nature of life.
